I think some of the 247 guys have pretty much outright said it’s a combination of both—potential and current abilities.
JR Blount deserves some serious credit here ...
Just follow recruiting thread and rarely post during off season. However, I just wanted to give massive props to this staff. Seem to identify elite talent well before many of the rest.

Good spot up shooter,but I didn't see him handling the ball that much?? When you have a three minute video on a guard and you don't see him handling the rock there is a real problem!
Agree, watching the video I got AirPodz vibes. Whom I really liked as a player actually but seems like we are recruiting at a different level these days. Think we can find a similar shooter who is longer with a better handle and bounce.
Does this come with the same kind of "surprised if he ever makes it to [Champaign]" prediction Fears got yesterday?

Not necessarily. I sort of look at this as a plus since ZZ gets an opportunity to play against arguably the best players in his age group and get professional coaching in the meantime.
Also, since my ADHD brain likes to have multiple thoughts going at the same time, I like to start another discussion topic: seems like smoke there has cooled on Jazz Gardner? Didn't really hear anything about him this summer whether it be gameplay, visits, AAU circuit, or college lists. Anyone got details here?

I have to imagine that, both with this and with Fears, the players' camps spoke with the respective coaches first.
I know nothing and am just reading the tea leaves, but seems like one of Gardners biggest concerns was his motor. Doesn’t seem like he’s done anything to quell those concerns so I’m not super surprised we’ve cooled. Doesn’t seem like a fit for what we want/need at the 5.
Genuine question: Why wouldn't this rationale apply equally to Fears?
