Not sure but I am certain it was not Bogie Rodman who never played for the Illini. But Bogie Redmon did.

But I have a trivia question also. Name the poster on this board who played for two high school coaches....one who played for the legendary Virgil Fletcher and the other who played for the legendary Ernie Eveland. Those two coaches are...arguably...the most accomplished high school coaches who did more with less over decades than any others. One of the two proteges went on to coach a team that was rated as the top team in Illinois for most of the season before losing in the quarter-finals to a team they had easily beaten that season.
Bogie used to be my parents insurance guy...

Speaking of legendary Illinois high school coaches - Dick Van Scyoc passed away last week at the age of 98.

I'm not sold yet. There is potential. I also have serious concerns. He frequently drives into heavy traffic and trusts that his skills will get him a shot. Many of the shots in traffic that he takes do not look like high percentage shots. Taller players would block him easily. He often relies on the bounce or roll on the rim for the basket. The frequency that he gets the bounce says something about his touch. Depending on the caliber of his teammates, it looks like he would often be better passing it back out. He has another year to figure it out.

This may be a lingering phobia of "bad Curbello" games. Curbello was amazing until he tried to do too much in traffic.

The good news is that he has had great success. Not all we hoped for but he's a great alumni.

Tal Brody, Bob Starnes, Bill Burwell, Dave Downey, Skip Thoreen, Bogie Rodman. i used to listen on thee radio on of my first memorizes

Trivai questions
Who hit the 76 foot shot to beat Northweestern on a buzzer beater??? :)
not only was Starnes shot a buzzer beater, but the Illini were never ahead during regulation time! the buzzer went off as the ball was in the air with Illinois trailing by one. It swished through the net and it was the ball game by one!

Should be no surprise as WCIA and Tom Schoendienst started broadcasting a few Illini games for the first time around 1955. Govoner Vaughn and Manny Jackson arrived in 1956 and entered the starting lineup as sophs for the 1957-58 season. There may even be a few Illini fans still around who saw the Whiz Kids play!! Those games were sponsored by Chesty Potato Chips...."the food its fun to eat!!"
I remember watching the Illini in the fifties with my parents. That's when I became an Ilini fan. I never attended the U of I but have remained an avid fan all these years. Players like Govoner Vaughn, Bogie Redmon and Manny Jackson became household names.
