A less athletic Mick Jagger.

Great initial on ball defense transitioning to a clever attention diversion gambit.

I think it's called, the jumpin' jack flash,
Truly ELITE

Anyone heard that Montverde had St Rita come down to Florida so that they can try to recruit Morez to play for them? I have heard it three times in the last week from three different people. Some close to the situation and some half drunk.
I doubt that any of the 2 bigs are going anywhere.
Wouldn’t be so sure about that. Rita will look different next year.
Wow! Yikes! Now that’s what I call high school recruiting…
P.S. DB11 also knows his stuff. j/s

Bowie played 96 games across 3 Kentucky seasons. He missed one game in college (maybe zero? College Basketball Reference is very upfront about their stats from the early 80's being spotty). His injury concerns in the NBA are well-established. We can plainly see it was extremely foolish to take Bowie before MJ but the Bowie NBA injuries have unfairly infected people's memory of his college performance.
The trailblazers had Drexler in Jordan's position and were in need of a shot-blocker and center. So why double up on a position that they already had covered with an all-star? No one knew that Jordan would be the GOAT, or even equal to Drexler. He came from a loaded UNC team where he didn't stand out that much.

I can follow Portland's logic, but, boy, am I glad they didn't follow BPA strategy.

I saw Jordan play maybe 30 times in person and he is the only player who was BETTER than his hype. Every game he would do something inventive that made you say to your neighbor "did you see THAT??" and shake your head. I took my kids every opportunity I had because I told them " This will be your only chances to see Babe Ruth play."

A truly remarkable player in every sense of the word. Go to you tube and watch his high-lights on old scratchy TV. It'll still knock your socks off. The GOAT of all GOATS!

I agree with your basic premise, no one was anticipating MJ becoming the GOAT, but he stood out plenty. As a Freshman, he played a supporting role behind Worthy and Perkins, but as a Soph/Jr. he was a 2-time First Team AA and the 1984 Naismith Award winner - he was clearly the best player on his team, in his conference and in the country.

If you look closer at his college stats over those three seasons at Kentucky you'll see that he sat out two full years between his second and third seasons and his ppg dropped from 17.4 to 10.5 after he returned. I'd say there were plenty of red flags in the moment.

from Sam Bowie’s wiki page

Injuries (1981–1983)

After the 1980–1981 season, a stress fracture in his left tibia was discovered, the injury caused Bowie to miss the entire 1981–82 season. The stress fracture did not heal completely and Bowie sat out the entire 1982–83 season as well. Doctors at first thought the pain in the left leg was due to shin splints, but just before the season in 1981, new X-rays revealed Bowie had a stress fracture he had been playing on. He was in a cast for 44 weeks. But, after removing the cast, the injury did not heal properly. Bowie had to have it surgically repaired, with a bone graft. As his class had graduated, Bowie applied for and was granted an NCAA medical redshirt to allow him another year of college eligibility.

Thanks, group, definitely missed that detail. Impressed that Bowie came back from that long of an injury and played a significant amount of games.

Beat me to it. Indeed, he did sit out two years because of injury. That's pretty significant. Like I said Olajuwon is one thing. Bowie not even in the same league.

If ever there were a player that just to see thneedse ball go through the hoop a couple times it’s RJ right now. Brad clearly has all the confidence in the world in him to find his stroke though and I hope he does.
He is 5 of his last 40 on threes. Worse than Coleman who is 5 of his last 30.

Watched the 2004 wake forest/illini game posted elsewhere in the forum.
It seemed like everyone on the team with the exception of Augustine was pouring in threes

I remember the question asked about Jordan at UNC.. Who was the only person that could hold Michael Jordan under 20 points?

Answer... DEAN SMITH

He went on to average more than thirty in the NBA.

Quite a few national HS teams are interested in Morez ... Rita gonna look a heck of a lot different next year ... Have heard all 3 could wind up leaving ...

Well, Rita tried to become a basketball school. Lol.

Might as well go balls out for that 4a championship because it reads like this be the end.

I thought with Curtis Price (DePaul) as AD, they'd be able to hold onto the big 3.

Hard to remember now, but while Jordan certainly was considered an elite college player at the time, nobody really talked about him being a generational talent like recent college stars Magic, Bird, Sampson or Ewing. And no team was built around a two guard. I recently read that something like 16 of the prior 20 MVPs were centers. So, it wasn’t a surprise that the two big men were taken before him.

As in better? Wouldn't be surprised if JB transfers out. Hope Morez stays.
I dont know how you can get any better that two homegrown top 50 bigs who started as freshmen at Rita and a top 75ish transfer in Nojus. They really need a top guard to pair with Morez, if he stays.
