Yep ... They will bring in an alpha #1 guy on wing, an elite Plummer type of shooter who can be a number 2 guy, and a veteran point guard who can handle the ball but doesn't need 10 shots a game to be efficient ... They like Epps at the 1 or the 2 ... Depending on who that transfer guard is will determine where Brad wants to play Epps ...

But I'd expect 3 additions from the portal ...

What about the 5? Are they that confident in Perrin? Or do they expect Hansberry to play some 5?

To me, MJ is in a class by himself. Then there is a list tied for second. The Big O, Bill Russell, The Big Dipper, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Dr. J. Larry Bird, Magic. ... LeBron.

I'd tentatively put Pistol Pete in a third tier with Hondo, Jerry West, Bob Cousy, Sir Charles, the Mailman, Duncan, among others.
For me the best college player ever was Kareem/Lew Alcindor. How can you do better than he did? Every year he played he was National Player of the year, NCAA MVP and his squad won it all! That may never happen again.

Brad says many things to hype kids up: Mark Smith was the next Jason Kidd, Curbelo was the next Steve Nash, and Goode was going to start ...

And maybe Goode would've started to begin the year? But he definitely would not be starting now ...

Not going to comment on any potential guys that could join the team until they are officially in the portal ...

We all are on message boards because we care more about Illini basketball than anyone else, and naturally we all want to look ahead to next year and the future and be as excited as possible.

But there's also part of me that thinks this is really bad for the chemistry and momentum going into the finish of the current season if everyone is already speculating on next year's roster, especially for the guys who might not be here next year or pushed into lesser roles next year.

I wish we could just all unite for the best finish possible for this year, all the guys on the current roster to play their best down the stretch and into the tournament, RJ to get things going like so many were hoping for and expecting coming into the year, everyone on the roster click when we all want it the most.

I don't know how it helps when people are already thinking about who will come in next year which obviously also means who won't be here next year. I look at how bad we played against Loyola, and then a few weeks later we find Adam Miller not happy and he's gone, and I look at last year and how guys struggled not just vs. Houston but we barely won the 4/13 game, and then Curbelo and so many others are gone....and it's obvious looking back that we were not pulling on the same page going into the most important games of the season in the tournament.

I know it will never happen, and I'm as guilty as anyone for logging on here to see what the insiders are saying about next year's roster/rumors (and our insiders are incredible and my favorite posters here), but I also think if this speculation all started April 1 or after our tournament loss that it would be a good thing. I mean these players already are under a ton of pressure to perform against the best competition in Big Ten and highest level of Division I basketball, I just wish they also didn't have to worry about their roster spots or roles or whatever the following year...there will be plenty of time to sort that out after the season. And I get all the 'times have changed, transfer portal...." I just want to see us all play our best in mid and late March and I think team chemistry/momentum is something that gets overlooked.

Just my two cents.
These kids shouldn’t be reading the message boards, and definitely shouldn’t care what some poster speculates about their roster spot. They should be focusing on the court, winning games, and getting better.

I don't disagree -- and I would be shocked if any current Illini wouldn't have 100 things better to to than reading what any of us post, though they might have friends who pay attention.

I just think it's easier said than done to block it all out. It's not human nature to ignore all the noise, and just one more thing to have to fight through as they try to get their game back on track.

I would love to see a long March Illini run to prove everything I posted wrong; it just seems the last couple years we have had some bad mo-jo going into the tourney and it's not too hard to see that happening again.

Question about Morez. I love seeing his highlights but wonder how he will do in the college game. He clearly dominates now due to his size, physical prowess but how will he score in college? Where will he get his points at the next level? Can he shoot? I love Ty Rodgers game but he is very limited offensively. Is Morez going to be similar?

It was quite a bit easier to win the National Championship in those days, since only 16 teams made the tournament. Repeating as champs is extremely rare these days. It was fairly common prior to 1975, when the field expanded to 32.

A couple of interesting things about his early college career:

The NCAA outlawed dunking the ball after his sophomore year, in an attempt to level the playing field. (It didn't)

In those days, freshmen weren't allowed to play. UCLA was coming off consecutive national titles the year he had to sit out. In an exhibition game against the varsity, Alcindor & his fellow freshmen beat the defending champs by 15 behind his 31 points. After the game, UPI wrote: "UCLA's Bruins open defense of their national basketball title this week, but right now they're only the second best team on campus."

He broke the UCLA single game scoring record in his FIRST GAME. (56 points)

I believe "The Big Dipper" is Wilt Chamberlain.
He was doing a lot of dipping all right…

Epps will start ... Dainja will start ... Gonna bring in two transfers who will start ... Last spot will be up for grabs, but I'd bet on Hansberry ...

Bring Buck, Ty and Goode off the bench ...

You don't mention RJ because he's not in your projected top 8, or because he's not on your projected roster?

Mark me down as still believing that he's going to have a breakout game and will be a major contributor as we move through February and into March. These off-seasons(free agency periods) have become so unpredictable. I don't think that it's even feasibly possible to start to figure out who's going to be on the roster, much less the rotation. Let's just win now.
