Well, without knowing anything about the situation except what you wrote, I would think that if he's good enough to play for us, then he'd follow Pitino.
I think he'd be more interested in going back home to Florida or going to the highest bidder. Though maybe he likes New York and would prefer to stay with Pitino. At this point, he's got an NCAA tournament game to prepare for, so doubt he's too worried about transferring.

Who is tasked with negotizing NIL contracts with potential recurits?
Any insights into how the value of these contracts is determined?
Any thoughts?

Jameer Nelson Jr … Name to keep an eye on …

Yes - that Jameer Nelson …

Two-Way Guard … 20.6 PPG … 4.6 RPG … 3.6 APG …

REALLY solid defender …
So we can expect him to commit somewhere else tomorrow then?

We’re almost always the bridesmaids to top talents, not often the bride.
Except for Kofi, Ayo, Shannon?

We're a high major playing big boy recruiting. You trust the staff to go big game hunting and have alternatives if they fall through.

This year isn't ideal, but we're in the tourney, and it appears the staff is learning on the fly who they want and how much do they want to change their system year over year.

Shannon was Michigan bound before things fell apart,Kofi and Ayo came in as freshman not transfers.

So your point is that we won a recruitment but there was other factors involved? So, literally every recruitment, ever?

The staff also kept Kofi when he entered the transfer portal. Kept Ayo for multiple years. We've seen that keeping stars multiple years requires work.

Also, 3 of our last 4 transfers have come in from playing smaller roles to earning all BIG honors (Omar Payne the lone exception). And from what I understand NIL was a big part of getting Mayer and Shannon here who were both on the short list of most coveted transfers.

So in short, we are at the very least competitive with NIL and we have a track record of enhancing transfers’ careers. Not saying we will get every transfer we target but we’ve got a great sell.

Well, no, we lost the Shannon recruitment but were the fallback option. So I guess that shows the value of coming in 2nd since sometimes things happen a certain way.

I think being 2nd also has more and more value where kids leave a program after one year. That "2nd option" might look pretty good at that point.

I do not believe this is true.

If memory serves me correctly, I believe that a technicality in regards to admissions is how TSJ wound up at Illinois and not Michigan.

Without combing through past messages to fact check my own brain, I believe that there were some clearinghouse issues/ hurdles that could not be met at UM. It seems they were mostly in regards to TSJ's course load not meeting the minimum required hours to earn a bachelors degree from UM and that our very own AD had to step out on a limb so that TSJ could admitted to Illinois, thus earning his commitment. Most institutions require roughly 2 years of coursework done at their institution to issue a transfer student a degree. TSJ would only be taking a single year of courses, no matter where he wound up, unless he opted for a grad year (which has different requirements).

Also, I believe TSJ's former summer coaches (Irvin faction?) had gone to social media saying he was headed to UM even and that is how most of us non-insiders found out what happened behind the scenes. The true board insiders I believe confirmed these happenings at a later date.

Now that's been awhile ago so I might have also misremembered some of the finer details since I've slept since then hahaha.

He needed summer school classes and Mark Adams/Texas Tech said you're off scholarship. If you want to go to summer school so you can leave, it's on your own dime.

I found it perfectly reasonable. Companies don't pay for their employees to take courses after they've announced they're leaving for a competitor.
