“KnoxIllini2 said: So what’s Brad’s focus for this year then?”

“CoalCity: Winning”

Of course, getting Wins is the goal of every coach. And while fans focus on the development of players... many overlook the fact that coaches also grow and change. At least the good ones do. They get older and wiser. They learn how to relate to and communicate with players better. They figure out what works and what doesn’t. They learn from their mistakes. And for all the disappointment with the outcome of the past seasons... this has been an enormous opportunity for growth. For both players and coach. And even for 'program' with another year of the Illini becoming a significant ‘player’ in the major college ball profile. The Illini get NOTICED more now.

The worst kind of coach is inflexible and without evolution. The Illini have an intelligent and passionate head coach who no doubt learned a great deal about his team and himself in the last year. He will come into the new season with even greater focus and desire to reward Illini fans with a team deserving of the affection that Illini Nation has for them.

Getting talented players is one thing. But getting the right MIX of players is even better. How the pieces fit means more than having great pieces that don’t play well together. And Coach is big on seeking that right mix of talent and their mental approach to the Game.

Expectations for the new season might be a bit tempered from the past seasons but that’s OK. Coming in a little looser and unburdened just might be what this team needs.

And for those who have concerns about a coach who might ‘elevate his voice’ at times... I’d rather have a guy who yells and cares than have one that keeps his voice down and doesn’t.
