Jolly Rogers was awesome and a bit under the radar. My knucklehead friends and I would always wait until the last minute to make reservations for big weekends (Dads Day, Homecoming, etc.) and they could almost always accommodate large parties... as you suggested... amazing pizza!
The original owner, Ray Timpone, had a reputation as a notorious cheapskate. One time, I ordered a large pizza to go, and he was working the register. I asked if I could have some napkins.

“How many do you need?” He asked.

“Oh, about seven or eight,” I replied.

He proceeded to hand me three and mumbled, under his breath, “you don’t need seven or eight napkins for that pizza.”

@Indy Illini Fan what kind of rabbits is Barnes pulling out to grad Ledlum and Knecht (away from Oregon, apparently) in the same week?

Is it a b10 thing? Transfers don’t want to come here since we flame in the tournament?

Not Indy, but...

Just curious, how is all this burger talk and baseball discussion allowed on the Illinois basketball recruiting page?
It would be appreciated to have a separate "off-topic" thread for people who need to post regardless of it's relevancy to the topic at hand (i.e. recruiting).

The idea of "there's nothing going on, so let's have hundreds of posts about an irrelevant topic to fill the gap" is not sensible. It's fine conversation, but the recruiting thread is not where those posts should be.

I understand that's extra work for Dan, and therefore I have no sense of entitlement it should happen.

But this thread is the perfect of example of why it would be beneficial.

Question for the insiders: Did we recruit Brock Harding at all? If not, any idea why? Was he all in w Iowa from the jump? Did we like other PGs better? I saw Harding play a couple times last season and I think we’re going to really hate playing against him for 4 years. Oh, and also… once hamburgers have run their course I look forward to debating the best pizza places in the Midwest.
I saw him several times this year and know his trainer who worked with him for years. Kid can pass, handle, and shoot without question. Decent athlete. Good off the ball D.

The trainer helped develop several players in D1 including a BTPOY, and some NBA guys. He believes Iowa is a good fit for Harding and he can play there at this level. I think he would have issues on D in a strict man to man system like Illinois, but Iowa is a good fit as they run a lot more than us, and play a fair amount of zone.

Sure it is, an overwelming percentage of people like both baseball and hamburgers. :) :)

Prospects entering the portal, prospects committing to other schools, thoughts about potential lineups and player fit, opinions on commits' games, upcoming dates/deadlines, recruiting ranking updates. All is relevant and would not make the main page.

Italian beef: Not relevant.

Tennessee grad here. Look no further than about 5 years ago when Charlie Ergen’s alumni fund pushed Jim Haslam out as the funding partner of choice for Tennessee athletics. Charlie is the founder of Dish Network and is a friend of fellow Tennessee grad Min Kao (of garMIN). Their group has DEEP pockets and Barnes has performed better than Altman lately.

Thanks for sharing. Hadn't thought of that place in years.... my parents were both from Mattoon and both sets of GPs lived there until they passed. Was not too far from Hoots Haus if I remember... and I think there was a connection? Also loved Little Mexico restaurant... would power through a Mr. Mexican platter :)
Yes - Hoots is gone, torn down many years ago and the original owner of both passed away a few years ago. Little Mexico has moved, nice place but the menu is dramatically different. I grew up in Mattoon and went to an LLC softball game today so we ventured into town for a late lunch at the BK today...buns were stale, daughter and I split the 4 cheeseburger and a pound of fries deal (fries there are not my favorite), with 2 fountain sodas the total was $20. A little high IMO. My daughter and I did talk a little Illini hoops and I told her I've been lead to believe we're getting a commitment from an Oregon transfer soon so all of this information is completely relevant!
