Put it back RayJ, come on.

Hey experts... I know we still believe RayJ will be in the orange and blue but the silence here is a bit defining. I'm not in panic mode yet. More of a realist. If he doesn't come here, what is the backup plan? I just don't want to see a freshman running point and trying lead a bunch of upper classman again.

p.s. sorry if this has been answered. I haven't been on the board in a week and don't have time to catch up.

Thanks in advance. Really appreciate what you guys do for us fans. Orange and Blue since 62!

I think Hawkins is content with staying in the draft regardless of what happens here, but he sure as heck isn’t coming back without a PG.

Same might hold true for TSJ, he just hasn’t been as direct.
TSJ talked about seeking a fully guaranteed contract. It seems if that isn't likely he will return. Doesn't he need to go in round one for that to happen? The mock that just came out 3 hours ago has TSJ at 44 and Hawkins at 48. My personal gut call is TSJ is back and Hawkins is about 40 percent to return. Whatever they decide I hope it's what best for them in the long run. If they can improve their draft position and ut seems they could. I hope they return for to be paid well here and more next season in the draft.

I, in contrast, read the fresh entrails of a chicken I've gutted each early morn on my office credenza.

As for Caleb, I see him going to Kansas... Self; Love.
I have no love for Love coming to Illinois.

Note:
Kudos for using entrails and credenza in the same sentence...... Plus, young'un's on here are Googling furiously trying to figure out what a credenza is :)

Hmm, not how I read that ... seems like an overly pessimistic take, IMO. Obviously as good college basketball players, both guys would prefer at literally any point in their careers to be drafted by an NBA team compared to coming back to college! :ROFLMAO: They'd be nuts if that were not the case. Considering that, they talked about their "Plan B" of coming back to Illinois QUITE favorably.

I'm not sure Hawkins and Shannon could be more direct about the problems the team had last year, how the problematic characters are no longer a part of the team, and how they're one vet PG away from being something special and withdrawing from the draft.
Yep, and I love to hear it. Our team last year was "disappointing" due to one of three possible reasons:

1. We lacked the talent to be good.
2. We lacked the coaching to be good.
3. We had fundamental team chemistry issues that we could not overcome.

Regarding #1, I think that might be pretty easy to rule out ... we beat two VERY good Texas and UCLA teams, and we honestly looked like world beaters for short periods. Regarding #2, I guess this site can debate all we want ... but Underwood and Co. have won a LOT of basketball games here and hung the types of banners we haven't had in Champaign for nearly two decades. Regarding #3 ... well, my money is squarely there.

Whether or not #3 would be SO resolved for next year that we would all of a sudden be an elite team, I am not sure. I hope so!

Since this is taking longer than some (I) thought. Are the insiders still confident about RayJ? Confidence level
? 100%?

This isn't a new or strange thing. When a school is recruiting a student, particularly for athletics, they will cover the cost of the trip and shower them with attention and gifts during their trip. Any potential student is going to try to take as full advantage of that as possible. As long as the school is willing to cover the visit, why not go out there?
I've heard that Louisville offers even more.

Why do we keep asking the same question over and over and over again?
Probably because it's a recruiting page and as it sits, we're literally waiting on three guys. I'm not trying to be a smart a$$ to be clear. We've been told that a decision was coming since April. Our main target has taken multiple visits since then. He was supposed to be a lock.

Next season's direction really comes down to RayJ + either JSJ or CoHawk. If neither of those two options come to fruition, it's a rebuild. If one of them do.... we'll be top 3 in the conference. That's why the same questions are being asked.

We didn't have a legitimate and steady PG, which made #1 and #3 come to fruition. Not having a reliable PG is a killer. They manage games on the floor, they settle things down, they get the offense in motion at the right time, they make sure people know where they're supposed to be.....they make sure there's more than 5 seconds on the shot clock before this is all done. Plus, they can break down a defense and make the right pass(not turn it over).

Thank you. I add absolutely no value concerning basketball matters within this recruiting thread. Instead, I occasionally serve as a generational portal through which the youth who are the vanguard of our fanbase may access the realm of late-20th-century culture, which would otherwise remain unknown to them. ;)

As a bonus, they're also welcome to play on my lawn as I sit in my La Fuma patio recliner and sip G&Ts languidly in the shade. And Await Ray J's commitment and the ensuing repatriation of TSJ and CoHawk that I hope will occur faster than a document cylinder moved via pneumatic tube in a 1960s department store or bank.
