And Michael Jordan was cut from his High School Basketball team. Some times kids need a motivation to reach their potential.
Not to take issue or ruin a good myth, and it may just be semantics, but from all I’ve read Jordan was just placed on the JV team as a sophomore. He then grew 5 or 6 inches before his junior year and, as they say, the rest is really history. Similar story with Doug Collins of ISU/Team USA/76ers fame. He grew 6 inches before his junior season at Benton High in Southern Illinois.
Best wishes to Podz! Things just happen when there are lots of moving parts…and there literally thousands of them with the portal. 🤷‍♂️

Correct me if I'm wrong but based on everything that has been said, Shannon seems to be announcing his return soon. RayJ is waiting for this decision and once Shannon announces, it'll solidify his decision and he'll commit soon after. Hawkins is somewhat also tied with the Shannon domino but since he's falling down boards, he'll announce his return.

So how soon are we expecting the Shannon announcement, since that seems to be the main thing to push the other two over the edge in their decision?
All three would be a grand slam. If we get RayJ and just one of TSJ or Coleman returns, I’d be overjoyed.

Anyone defending this staff by claiming Podz didn’t have what it takes to play here is the Baghdad Bob of messageboards.

Podz lead the WCC in rebounding as a 6’5 guard. I’m certain that a guard, who leads his league in rebounding, is tough enough to play at Illinois. Why Underwood couldn’t see that will be one of the greatest mysteries of all time.
No…. It won’t. He could not guard me.

I am pretty sure Doug Collins's late growth spurt was after high school. I recall 1969 all state teams showing him 6-0 or maybe 6-2.

You are correct. He was 5-10 as a HS sophomore and grew 4 inches to be 6-2 his senior season. He grew another 4 inches at ISU. His HS Coach, the late Rich Herrin, who also coached at SIU, was a dear friend who would often talk about Doug and others.

This is always the example I use. KG is the gold standard for a player who was raw as a Freshman, better but still couldn’t shoot well as a sophomore and then blossomed as a junior. Today we’re in an instant gratification world where “if I can’t play now I’m going elsewhere.” Gill earned his minutes at a B1G school, got his degree and was a key figure in a Final Four team. Listening to him speak now, you can tell he cherishes his time at Illinois and is no doubt glad he stuck through the tough times.

Edit: responding to the Kendall Gill comment above.

The most significant late growth spurt i recall was David Robinson at Navy where you can to tall to be on a ship and Robson shot up after arriving at the academy.

Robinson's growth spurt came later but...

Well what was unique about Robinson was he was 6'6" when he enrolled in the Naval Academy. Davis was before he played at UK Had he been taller when he enrolled he would not have been allowed to due to the 6'7" max to be on a ship. He did grow 7 inches and was the best player in the country playing for Navy. As I recall He was allowed out of his commitment to the Academy since he was allowed to work off shore.
How sweet would it be if one of your incoming freshmen like Amani kept growing!

I have a bigger question and your avatar brought it to my mind.......I wonder why " Firefly " only got one season......?????

I think it is a fantastic work of TV art and have binge watched all 14 episodes numerous times........it had everything you would want in a series and the women are so beautiful..............Action packed and a lot of great plots .........

Why , oh Why , only one season ??????????????????????????????????????????????????
