It would truly take a breakout year from 1-2 guys currently on the roster, or some serious coaching from Brad & Co. I am not very confident on the latter.

I am a huge Brad fan but imo his success relies pretty heavily on the talent he brings in. This roster currently doesn’t have enough to make any worth while noise. We need to make a S16 ASAP.

Portal kids are worse than HS kids. Until they announce they are total free agents. Of course with Caleb Love even after he announced. Poor Juwon :LOL:

TSJ 4/29 MM 5/27

Last year we were expecting big improvement from Coleman, Luke and RJM. Coleman was a solid starter. We lost Luke to injury. RJ lost his jump shot.

I am expecting big sophomore jump from Dain and Ty. If they each play 30 mpg for us we will have some significant inside scoring and offensive rebounding.

We might get some good freshman contributions from Amari.

The only issue I have is that from the beginning there was an overselling of how amazing this roster is guaranteed to be by the time everything shakes out. Yuri is a massive downgrade to RayJ & if TSJ or CH stays in the draft, this roster would be very meh, in my opinion. Guess it's possible to fill in some of those gaps, but there's no way that was the intention with saying that we'd all be elated at the end of this crazy period of recruiting.

I'm not even mad if what the insiders said doesn't come to fruition. What bothers me is that anyone who expresses doubt about these prognostications is flamed by 20 people. I really don't think the insiders are so thin skinned that we need to jump on anyone who contradicts what they say

Im just wondering what is going on with Michigan admissions? First Shannon, now Love. But you know what, keep it coming. I need it to spread to freshmen as well as transfers.

Can someone please summarize what changed today? I've tried to spot check and it sounds like Utah? Crystal balls flipping or a tweet from somewhere? I have 0 inside on this and still am holding out hope. Should I give up on that or trust Marvin?

If it's a "massive" downgrade to get a PG who has led the nation in assists the past 2 years, is the current assists leader in college hoops, 19th in history, and was a top 5 finalist for the Bob Cousy Award 2023 ... sign me up!

For all the concern over RayJ Dennis or Yuri Collins or whoever, it should be all eyes on Terrence Shannon Jr. If you put him in the portal, he’s probably top 4 of all guys who have been on the market this offseason. I understand you need an experienced, true PG to run this team, but I think this board has gone a bit overboard reactionary to how dire our situation was this year. A freshmen literally quit the team in December, and our only other option was a freshman 2 guard who played out-of-position and clearly was at odds with the staff and play-calling by the end of the year. If we combine Shannon with even a middle-of-the road point guard who doesn’t quit and doesn’t get hurt, this team has the necessary pieces and is at least old enough to compete at the level we desire. And hey, if there’s anything Illinois teams have needed the last few years, it’s to be perceived as the hunter, not the hunted. All eyes on TSJ before we lose our collective sh** over RayJ

Except they aren't just parts/spots. You are replacing the engine and the transmission. Not sure we are going to be anything better than mid pack BIG, at best, without them. You have to pray a big name falls out of the draft and into your lap at this point of portal roulette, and you are never getting 2 of those.
