Zero idea what is actually going on here, but if you’re trying to extract as much money as possible, the intense flirting with other schools makes all the sense in the world.

RayJ thinks being the alpha on a mid Pac 12 team will help his draft stock … Because so many NBA GMs are tuned in to 11 PM tip for Utah vs Oregon State …

Being serious … There is no logical reason for him to pick Utah … I have no idea what he’s thinking …

Turning down $300,000+ …

I thought Kofi’s advisors were bad … This might be worse …
As many others have said, thank you for your insights as always! As a fan, it's always a blast coming on here for the "offseason drama" that otherwise I'd be clueless on.

This bolded take feels salty though... It reads like NBA GMs are only capable of watching games live and don't have a mass of scouts watching/reporting up. If RayJ ends up avg 20+ ppg and improves while going up to Pac-12 play from the MAC, NBA scouts are obviously going to take notice... despite playing at 11pm.

I thought the 22-23 version was extremely entertaining to watch, until MM’s head bounced off the floor almost higher than his vertical, and then he went 1 for 30-ish from 3 until the end.
Other than the 2 early wins - we beat the teams we were supposed to beat and lost to the better teams. Essentially no upsets or bad losses. But I am not sure Penn state x3/Northwestern/Iowa/Missouri/Maryland were better teams.

similar to Illinois NCAA results (history)
once beat a lower seed we were a 9 and beat an 8 - No other upset (seeding) in our storied history

Unfortunately have had multiple bad NCAA losses....

You can say the decision makes no sense cause Utah hasn’t been a good program and the NIL is less but that’s doesn’t necessarily mean it’s what mattered to RJD. There are definitely some selling points of this choice too, just like there were ours. They’re just different angles. Maybe the guy also just didn’t like our staff or players as much. Not saying that was it, but point is you don’t know what went into the decision but that would be a very valid reason — gotta be happy and get along with the guys you play for wherever you go

I didn’t find the bold statement that salty…Indy is telling it like it is and what could possibly hurt RayJ’s draft stock in that situation. He’s not saying that it will happen but it’s possible.

Allow me to introduce to you the new Bryce Hopkins! His name is RayJ Dennis! Can you see the meme's now? Bring it!

Seriously, I'm glad to be moving on from this. The dude clearly isn't in it for the team. Just himself. I trust that BU will find a grad transfer PG to hold it down for a year. Then we just need to find a way to keep the young ones we have now. We need someone who buys into the "Everyday Guy" mantra.

I thought recruiting HS kids was crazy.

I guess portal is not all about playing time and NIL$$$. I guess you have to love the coach/staff/and program

I posted a couple recruiting threads ago that this seemed like a Groce recruitment. I was hoping it wouldn’t end like that but it turned out to follow the Groce PG recruiting arc to a T. Should have trusted the signs…

Another example that things/info can change and players don’t always follow what we deem as logical.

But I’d also like to bring up that this recruitment brought out a side of insider interactions I haven’t really seen before.

I saw an awesome post from @Indy Illini Fan a few weeks back about how his insider info helped a person (poster on loyalty maybe?) because that person was able to talk to an ailing relative about the beloved’s recruiting. A touching story.

But I also saw posts on here (not necessarily Indy) being rude, snarky, sometimes demeaning and often dismissive of people that questioned insider info…

I think it’d be prudent to remember that if posts on this message board can bring happiness (the anecdote from Indy) it can also bring people down.

I respect the heck out of you guys (the insiders) for bringing us a unique perspective and sharing it publicly even though we don’t deserve it.

And I subscribe 100% to the notion that nobody should be upset with any of you because y’all were told we had a recruitment in the bag. Nobody should disrespect you because things turned and a player chose another school.

But respect is a two way street, and when normal posters question info, maybe it’s best to ignore it or respond more respectfully. Especially because all those “facepalm/JFC/eye roll/WTH/that tweet is wrong/calm down” flavor of posts were in response to info that ended up being at least somewhat accurate.

Loyalty posters can be a frustrating bunch of “feed me more info” crazies, but as long as they aren’t trolling, I think all posters should be afforded the same respect we (should) give our insiders.

When judging information gathered here, people need to keep in mind that players are human. Recruiting is a lot like dating. You can ask your friend how a date went, and they thought it went amazing, she might be the one! The next time you talk to them, she just wants to be friends... It doesn't mean that your friend was lying to you or didn't have reason to be optimistic. Just that their perception of the relationship was different. It always takes two to tango.

Perceptions are complicated, and what most insider information is based on. People are even more complicated, and sometimes motivated by factors that make no sense to others. Just keep in mind, that a PG is a person, not necessarily a commodity to be auctioned to the highest bidder. (Though in some cases that IS the determining factor.) Our NIL coffers probably did inspire a lot of confidence, but apparently for RayJ wasn't his biggest priority.

People are strange critters.

I actually buy into this. It's not necessarily the right decision and it's certainly not the decision that any of us want, but there are so many things that a young basketball player has to consider. Just think of all the things that might weigh into one's portal decision:

- Being the alpha on a lesser team in a lesser conference vs. competing for points and exposure on a really good team
Quite frankly, if Podz hangs on to be a first rounder (and there's a lot of workouts to go before that's close to a sure thing) then he'll have helped create a new path for transfers. Not that he's the first, but the first step to success in any industry is to get noticed.

I didn't really follow much of KU, but from what I remember is that he's more of a SG than a PG, so I'm not sure that helps us in that category? Please, someone correct me if I'm wrong.
Reeves played last year at UK (Kentucky )
He didn't play for KU (Kansas)

Other than that I think your post is somewhat accurate as we need a PG and he definitely didn't play PG last year......

Hope that helps...........
