Thats interesting because it would tell me there is something he needs to develop that coming here won't help get it done. Somehow Utah can help him more than our staff?
I think there's a decent chance Shannon and Hawkins comes back-and I think he was worried about being the 3rd or 4th option on a team instead of being the main guy. Again, it's likely a big mistake, but that was the thought process. We will find someone who will want that role pretty quickly and easily

And people wonder why we clap back sometimes … It’s always the people who beg for info then when it changes call you out … Like we just can sit on the phone 24/7 with our contacts and immediately get on here when something changes … That’s my favorite … 😂

There are also so many people who understand … I appreciate you guys/gals … This is not any of our full time jobs … Many of us have wives, kids, and work and many other responsibilities and this is nothing but sharing some info we get from people in the know or the staff or an agent or whoever it may be for free with you guys on here …

No one is 100% right all the time … But they only remember the misses … It don’t matter if you shoot 90+% … 🤷🏻‍♂️
Incorrect. My wife is always right.

Everyone is pissed off. So am I. Let's chill out a bit. There is still a lot to play out and I have full faith in the staff to put a good team together. Shannon, Hawkins, a possible Hawkins replacement, and a good transfer pg all still on the table.
THIS ^^^
I feel like many are very much undervaluing the transfers we have already added. People harp on 1st Team All Conference guys from the Valley and other conferences and say they can't be that good. Yes they can be! Reeves that UK may loose was exactly that and shot 40 percent from three and averaged 14 in the SEC. Domask should be damn good. Also, I expect a healthy Goode, Dain, and Rodgers to play much better. Dain and Rodgers played very well in what was their first college season. I am not sure what to expect from Harris but he should make better choices offensively with a year under his belt. We have a good core. I hope TSJ comes back and hopefully Hawkins. Shannon is a bigger deal to me than Ray J. With the minutes and money we have finding a PG will be much easier than replacing Shannon Jr!

Few things bewilder me more than someone who takes full advantage of generously-offered, well-informed insights for which he pays nothing, and then complains bitterly when results fail to match his expectations.

As you said before, though, whoever we get will be a downgrade from RayJ. NBA scouts or not, Brad absolutely can’t lose a sell like this. Huge NIL and huge playing time for a mid major transfer. Frustrating and sad.

Hopefully there is not a ripple affect from this down to TSJ and Coleman. Yuri + those two would still make a good team. Time for Brad & company to coach up some players.

There may be a couple more guys that jump in the portal in the next few days
Apologies for the hate you've been given.

With how late we are in the process, any idea of when a decision on who the PG will be?

Also, how is this latest turn with RayJ impacting TSJ and Hawkins decisions and timing of them.

Hopefully this latest event doesn't' limit you and other insiders sharing information with us.

I expect them to find a new pg in the next week or two

Well you guys are a lot more accurate than weather reporters (and that's good enough for me), and the info you provide gives us something to talk about between the pizza and cottage cheese discussions.

He should have closed. But sometimes guys just change their minds and there is nothing you can do. RayJ wanted to come to Illinois, but certain NBA feedback he got pushed him away from that
That's a whole different take if you're saying that NBA feedback steered him away from coming here. Losing a kid...happens. Life goes on. If you're saying that NBA execs have a negative connection between us and successfully being drafted, it's worth a whole different discussion. Any way to clarify?

Nothing specific about Illinois. More so of what he needs to do with the ball in his hands all the time. Who do you think would get the ball at the end of games-Shannon or him?

I'm not sure if this is a hot take or not but I don't like the Yuri Collins fit. He's been successful averaging 10 assists this past year due to being an incredible passer but in order to play him properly, teams must be built around him with much better shooting than what we have here.

He is heavily ball-dominant so how would that pair with Shannon or even Hawkins who will need the ball to help set up plays or drive the ball themselves. As a result of Collins being so heavy on-ball, he has little to no impact off-ball. His 3pt% looks average on the face of it, but he barely takes any threes (only made 15 the entire past season).

Essentially, unless he is the entire offense (either passing/scoring) he doesn't have much impact. In these aspects, he's somewhat Curbelo-esque. Not to mention he is severely undersized (around 5'10 not the 6'0 he's described to be). RayJ was a near perfect fit to this team, Brad messed up there.

It’s been said by a few already, myself included. But, everyone needs to calm down. It’s completely acceptable to be disappointed or frustrated that this recruitment may not have worked out. Those with knowledge to the situation have shared what they’ve heard or know. It is not their fault that the Illini didn’t close. Blaming them or calling them out should not be the target of your criticism.

The staff needs to finish the job. That’s on them. As disappointed as I am, I still have confidence they’ll put this team in a position to be successful next season. This isn’t over…

Obviously this is ever evolving in regards to the actual team’s performance. I’ll revisit when the ‘23-‘24 season is complete.

For those who have shared information that very few people out there can obtain, I say thank you!

Go Illini

I find it to be the opposite. We don't need a PG to come in here and put up 16 shot attempts per game, we need a guy who can setup & run the offense. We have Shannon as a primary scorer. This is also why RayJ is going to Utah (he can be the primary, well, everything there - which won't work here at Illinois). Yuri is 2 inches shorter than RayJ so not a huge downgrade in terms of size. Anyone remember how tall Markquis Nowell is?
