I was actually at that game as a 24 year old staff acct at Arthur Andersen , who luckily earned the respect of a Chicago partner who had a buddy partner in the SD office , who got me & wifey free tix , whilst out there in LA for a training seminar

watched game 4 in the downtown LA Hilton, kinda happy it was going to a game 5, and then we drove the 120 miles down I-5 Sunday morning to Jack Murphy .

me & about 4 others from the office watched game 1 from a bar in Ohare on Tuesday aft . hooting & hollerin . fun memories

The Cubs had home field advantage that year, but had to give it up because Wrigley Field didn’t have lights yet. Four years later, Wrigley finally caught up to the 1950s.
That's not true. Not that it's your fault, it's one of those myths circulated by sad-sack Cubs fans as an attempt to justify their record-setting loserness. You didn't make it up.

The truth is, the locations of the NLCS games were predetermined, as they alternated yearly between East and West champions. Lack of lights may have caused a night game to become a day game, but that's it.

The Cubs were informed that in 1985 (and beyond) they would have to install lights, temporary if necessary, or be forced to play in an alternate stadium. If they made the playoffs. Being the Cubs, they made sure it didn't come to that.

They also changed the best-of-5 to a best-of-7, mostly due to the incessant whining emanating from the north side.

Boy, was that an amazing season in 1984 though! Huge fan.
