Watched a lot of Illini basketball the last 40+ years and it is very unusual to rely on a freshman to get big buckets like we did with Epps. Also very common for freshmen (and sophomores) to look lost on defense. It seemed the staff put a lot of pressure on Epps which is not an easy position for a freshman. He certainly didn't handle it well at times but handled at least as well as our HC.

So this time last year everyone thought we were gonna be amazing and was super happy with the roster and we sucked. This year everyone is pissed about the roster make up and thinks we’re gonna suck… so taking a single year as evidence, and then with some sort of fallacy idk the name of, basically we’re gonna win the Natty.

I'm afraid it's gonna be a long summer of this insanity.
It's probably late July at the earliest for Reeves to finish his summer classes and officially enter the portal.

So, yes.

No he's a pretty traditional 2 guard. However, he is a solid secondary ball handler and he basically single handedly beat Arkansas when both Kentucky's point guards got hurt.

However, I know there is a lot of talk about getting a ball dominant pure point guard but I don't think it's incredibly necessary with some of the additions they made.

If they add Reeves they will have him, Williams, Shannon, Domask, Rodgers, Hawkins, and possibly Harmon if he can get accepted. Williams is a true point plus that's a ton of guys that are capable of handling the ball and facilitating. Having that pure point guard isn't as necessary if you have a ton of guys capable of handling the ball and moving it around, the issue last year was that the offense would stagnate

Reeves is a 40% 3pt shooter on heavy volume if you can get him just do it. I would absolutely love to watch a lineup of Reeves, Shannon, Goode, Domask, and Hawkins. Just surround Shannon and Hawkins with deadly shooters. You could play a small ball lineups Where you swapped Rodgers in for Hawkins and play 5 out where Shannon and Rodgers have unlimited space to drive.

Plus he's a Chicago guy from Simeon and establishing that pipeline could be huge even if we haven't seen a top ranked cps recruit in a few years.
Hmmmm….Reeves was a senior at Simeon when Williams was a junior at Simeon.

Antonio Reeves previously (at least prior to our rumored interest) followed Sencire, Shannon, Dain and Harmon. Still does.

I’m pretty certain that him following Domask is new, though. That’s a good chunk of our roster…

Glad you guys are not in charge of roster development.

The reality is we brought in 4 guards last year and only one was sort of a PG and he was a bust.
Then we bring in another guard in Moretti and he will never play according to observers.
So five guards and the only one that was a point guard (he never looked like one at all really), was a drama queen with no wheels.

Staff really didn't plan this out.

We could have recruited another PG or transfer who could actually play.

Now we have to patch it together.
You know what they say a true 1 and a true 5 are the hardest things to recruit. There are a ton of combos and wings out there but not a ton of guys on the ends of the spectrums. Underwood has done much better than his predecessor at landing HM recruits at both position. None of the 1s have really worked out but he has at least landed them. Curbelo was on a good trajectory until the wheels fell off in year two. Skky was a legit scoring PG but that obviously didn't work out for various reasons. I think both of those situations led to BU wanting an older PG. Unfortunately the one he wanted went elsewhere
