As far as recruiting a point guard, it appears:

Plan A played at Portsmouth and stayed in the draft.

Plan AA may have been an Illini lean early on. After falling behind we made a late rush with his family, but not enough to overcome negative recruiting. He committed elsewhere.

Plan B unexpectedly stayed in the draft.

Plan C committed but had too much baggage to unpack.

Where that leaves us probably belongs in the upcoming season thread, but here goes nothing.

Briefly, we do have two rising freshmen PGs with good offensive skills on the roster. One of them, Nico Moretti, enrolled early, and survived the spring semester. The other, Dravyn Gibbs-Lawhorn, might be ready for rotation tick.

Transfer Justin Harmon is a combo guard with plenty of experience.

We all know Rodgers has point forward skills. New addition Marcus Damask is also a very good passer and ball handler.

In addition, incoming freshman big Amani Hansberry has been described as a point center. Hawkins also has good ball skills for a big. As does Dain. Hopefully, with the improved conditioning, Dainja will show more of what he is capable. Guerrier looks to have combo forward skills.

Despite the lack of an experienced point guard, the team should be better overall at dribbling and passing.

Does anyone else find it truly hilarious that not long after someone posted a logo chart of colleges worst fans and their rival (too lazy to look it up to attach, but you all remeber the one, the one with IL vs.IL), that the last some odd pages pretty much confirms it?

This is not at all what the 1st Amendment guarantees. It guarantees that the government cannot restrict your right to speak your mind (or assemble or practice religion, etc.). It does not prevent private organizations from restricting speech on their premises or services and it does not give the right to say what you want free of consequences. It's just not the government doling out those consequences.
Agreed, my very next statement in that post alludes to this . . . . Dan's House, Dan's rules.

I promised I would never post again on this site but I have to agree here.

During a bad shooting game by RJ last season I posted (in the game thread) that I thought that RJ should consider transferring to a smaller school. I was then banned for 6 months for “posting off topic”, yet so many post food, girls, pizza places ect and are never banned for anything like 6 months.

I would content Dan has his favorites, and those he does not like. I happen to be one of the latter. In those cases he rules with an iron hand. It is his site so he can do as he wishes, but I warn you don’t become a “non favorite” you will be censored and sometime very harshly.

On to the banning Dan, let’s go for a year this time, or wait let’s go for life as your doing such good work restricting the speech of articulate and educated posters.

Latter all, sure I am gone for years now :(

New York City Smoke GIF by Storyful

I thought the smoke was due to clear out today. It is kind if similar to our PG situation if you think about it as well as staying on topic. We shall just have to wait and see when we will talk about recruiting, who will be running point in October, and can breath again. I think the smoke will clear first.

Hi everyone!

Thanks for the all the messages both public & private on the topic of what's fair topic around here. What tends to happened is the overall tone of the board -- specifically the basketball board as it has been the most popular place around here for years -- the tone of the board gets established during the downtime of the offseason. There's no right or wrong time to post on this board, but the people who keep the discussion going when the news cycle goes cold simply gets to set the tone going forward. Now, what makes 2023 so interesting is we haven't really had any downtime to speak of just yet.

This is a powerful fanbase, a fanbase with an edge. It's inevitable that when there's anticipation about a roster move -- or the slightest hint, the slightest curiosity about a potential roster move (both real & imagined) -- the power & intensity of the discussion will produce topics which tend to stray from the main subject. Drifting discussions are inevitable, the challenge being if the drifted off-topic discussion remains at a high-enough level of interest, entertainment & respectability. I am by no means perfect in making those calls, but I'm doing my best & will continue to have a lot of practice in the near term.

Moving forward, I do consider all the feedback which has been sent in, & I want to thank everyone again for sharing thoughts on the issue. It means a lot that this is a place that so many choose to spend their time to share in the glory & heartbreak of Illini athletics. I can't promise anything as far as any potential changes coming soon, but I really do take everything under advisement. If you've made it this far reading this post, friendly reminder for those who don't have an account, the site is free of ads (plus there's the popular ignore feature) for those who are signed in with an account.

Thank you & Go Illini!
Dan
