Really nice developmental piece. Could be a good player if he decides to stick around.

Sure feels like Illinois could have waited on jaksyts. wish he had other p5 offers. Feels like a mid major player but someone has to be #12 or #13 on the roster.

With Hansberry and Johnson on board already this is a good move. As long as he is working his butt off and helping set the culture and work ethic Brad demands.
But, Brad is a meany who yells sometimes. Ask the kid from France. s/

Highlights! -- I'm very impressed.

IHSA highlights make Jakstys look like a Duke player. Exciting game!

Compared to Meyers Leonard, whom I recall as a project (albeit one with raw tools and elite athleticism, rather than strong skills and publicly-questioned strength):
- ~2" shorter
- maybe less explosive?
- lower ranked
- better touch and handles at this stage, based on how I remember Meyers as a freshman
- better high school competition
** height and explosiveness make a difference at high major level, but Jakstys isn't too far behind Meyers in those categories

It's been remarked:
- you need players 10-13 on the roster
- it's economical to have some players that don't take big NIL payments (maybe Jakstys does--I don't know--but a 3 star with few high major offers would seem more likely to be in that category)
- Jakstys hasn't put up the monster performances that Morez and Hansberry did in AAU
- Jakstys is a different type of big than Dainja, Hansberry, and Johnson. That's worth something in practice and games.
- Jakstys will be "Fletch'd"

I like the commit.

Question: Do commits receive workout plans, virtual coaching, and progress tracking from college staffs? Do NCAA rules permit it?

Come on, Meyers was an athletic freak. By the time he finished high school he should have been a 5 star.

Lets' not put that on this kid.

Highlights! -- I'm very impressed.

That little between the legs dribble and small step back to bury the 3 at the :49 mark is a college move. They mentioned his good lateral quickness and able to guard multiple positions. A good passer. A versatile big who should be good in the PNR game.
He’s just lacking some strength and muscle. Coach said he’s not done growing either height wise.
This is a really really good pick up at the 10-13 position. Wisconsin would stash this guy for two years and he’d come out and we’d wonder why we didn’t pursue him.
I’m super excited to have him.

I've seen a few people complaining about taking Jakstys instead of waiting on more talent...

NIL is a thing still, and this is not the NBA. There are no rookie contracts, there is no limit on how much a player can get paid, and there are 65 power 5 schools alone that a kid can play for.

Add that to the insanity of the transfer portal and tell me which one you would rather have.

Freshman who will take a scholarship and very little NIL money. He is from your backyard and will likely be a good contributing piece in 2 or 3 years. He will have grown in the team culture, likely be very loyal, and still not put a huge dent in your pockets. He will know the system like the back of his hand by the time he's ready and form strong relationships and trust on the team.

Take a top 100 freshman that wants playing time and good NIL $$. A freshman that would likely be behind Hansberry and Dain at the minimum.

2 or 3 years from now, pay a transfer big that will be here for 1 year tons of NIL $$.

I know which one I would take. Especially considering that typically only 10 players see the floor on a consistent basis, using those last 3 scholarships to develop and grow talent is key.

And anyone that says NIL killed loyalty, I would like to point you to Coleman and TJ, neither of which entered the portal.
