well aware that some fans see Jakstys as Lieb 2.0. that's selling him short, IMO. Lieb is the floor.

Fletch will be key, as will practicing with high major players. calculated gamble, but worth it, IMO. Grinch and Clean Gene were masters with development bigs. Now, it's our turn.
Lieb couldn’t walk and chew gum at the same time coming out of HS. Jakstys is a MUCH better athlete. He certainly won’t be contributing early, but you need kids who are going to accept their role in this day and age.

It just doesn’t seem like these projects ever work out in our favor. I’d rather see scholarships go to players that are closer to being ready to play at the D-1 level straight out of high school.

Amani & Morez are in the fold. That's two VVG heavy minutes starters. We'll almost surely add a VG, very experienced frontcourt transfer. Then there's Dain. I don't see what the issue is. How many teams play even 10 guys?

Well, it appears that Jakstys offer was very committable. It's a whole lot easier to get a big to add weight than it is for them to learn how to shoot and move. Hopefully, he takes to the weight room and we have a really solid piece in a few years.

Edit: My guy wears goggles. Now I'm all the way in. May he become the next Horace Grant.

Looks much better than Lieb to me and I’m happy with the signing. I feel like many of the same things are being said about Jakstys as I heard when Lieb signed, but this one feels much more like real prospect. Hopefully it doesn’t end the same. And I certainly don’t blame Lieb for moving on.

Out of the 138 composite 4-star and 5-star guys, only 15 of them are 6’10” or taller. So all but 15 schools (max) are taking a 3-star if they want that height. Add in that he’s an in-state guy… sounds good to me.
Good point...players with his size and skills, not to mention aggressiveness, do not fill up a basket from which anyone that wants one to pull. They often prove to be very good with hard work and patience. The game never slowed down for Lieb, but there were a handful of admirable moments. We all wish Maverick had one more year. We have known for some time the JJ was being pursued so this commit should surprise no one. Would love to see Mikey Lewis join the class too. His talk about Illini style of play is certainly encouraging.

Good point. Seems like the player Wisky gets and are a pain to play. With transfer rules wonder if players like him should play immediately at a mid major for 1-2 years then transfer.

While this isn't a flashy pickup, he sure isn't Lieb 2.0. Obviously has more athleticism and a better shot. Doesn't hurt to have a 6'11 guy on the bench if you need him. Hopefully we can develop him into a guy by his Junior year. Otherwise we have a good core of Morez, Amani, and Dain for now.
