Agreed. If anything perception is probably skewed just because the recruiting landscape is a lot different. Enhanced focus on the portal means fewer HS rides in a class; which means fewer HS targets and names discussed overall.

Also, this staff seems less inclined to leak info to media outlets and spin Illinois' positioning with a recruit. In the gospel according to Chin, we were leading players in every recruitment.

It's literally never worked for Illinois and always resulted with us being a "bubble team".

Our last three commitments - DGL, Moretti and Jatskys, are all outside of the top 100. Again, hopefully this is an exception and not the norm. Also not saying these kids can't be wonderful basketball players.

You realize that 9-10 guys play non-garbage minutes, right? 2 of the 3 guys you cited are at the bottom of our roster. DGL was a Top 20 kid early. He brings a lot. It's way, way early yet, but there have been signs that he's gonna be a player. Lot of teams could be kicking themselves that they didn't go after him.

Of all the things to carp about I don't see this as being a substantive issue. FWLIW, I think our recruiting has been pretty darn good.

One last thing, Jakstys is a lottery ticket. Kid has skills.

How do you recruit the last three guys on the bench except to get a developmental kid? That's exactly what they are. We just hope with the portal, that they stick around long enough to help us and our development does end up helping some one else.
