Booth plays like a 6’10 spot up shooter that does nothing else. 6’10 guys that shoot 30% from 3, and do nothing else aren’t very desireable.

I’d much rather keep Hansberry. Booth looks the part. But Stats are terrible
I love Amani, but you are way oversimplifying Booth's game. There's a post on this forum with a video break down of his shot selection, proficiency at each spot, etc. He is way more versatile than what you are implying and the data shows it. He's also a couple inches bigger than Amani and played a ton of minutes freshman year with very limited turnovers. Again, I'd prioritize keeping Amani (even though he has back issues and that's a whole other confounding factor) but Booth has a ton of upside and has already performed as a high usage player.

You guys got to relax. Some of you are making it seem like we are losing players left and right….not the case. Ok we may lose Maddox but there are similar players in the portal. Yes Storr is really good but would rather have someone that wants to be part of a winning culture. Seems like he just wants a bag of money and that’s it. If we get him great, but there are other options.

He’s been terrible as a high usage player.

Shot 39/30/63.
74 2PA
118 3PA

20 mpg, 0.5 assists.

He’s a tall guy that hangs out at the 3 point line, shoots it poorly, and does literally nothing else. Doesn’t create for others, doesn’t rebound, doesn’t block shots.

This guy got minutes on a bad Notre Dame team and didn’t stand out. That’s not good when you can’t stand out on a bad team

Uh, "always" must be a MIGHTY short time in some frames of reference if that assertion is true. I could SWEAR we had some issues just the season before this last one.

But I suppose that is just negative thinking, recalling the past as it actually, really really (ha ha!) was. Or is. Sigh.

Bad Brad is in the whitewater now. I feel for him, I REALLY REALLY do.

I have no idea how anyone can expect more; I also have no idea how we don't see how terribly difficult this is to build a team from scratch every April.

That makes 'Herculean' seem petty.

61.5% of Booth's shots were from 3. That is insane for a 6'10" player. Comparing to the Illini players last year:

Hawkins - 50.1%
Guerrier - 43.1%
Shannon - 46.2%
Domask - 28.9%
Goode - 87.7%

Only Goode took a greater percentage of 3s than Booth did. Because Booth just lived on the perimeter, he only took 41 FTs. So it's not much of an oversimplification. And if you are going to live on the perimeter, you better shoot a heck of a lot better than 29.7%. The guy looks to be an elite athlete, which makes me say even more, what the hell are you doing on the perimeter?

The hope would be, compare Soph Hawkins (he didn't play much as a Fr) to Fr. Booth:
Hawkins - 19 mpg, 5.9 ppg, 4.3 rpg, 1.5 apg, 44.2% FG, 29.2% 3pt, 65.0% FT
Booth - 19.9 mpg, 6.4 ppg, 4.3 rpg, 0.5 apg, 39.1% FG, 29.7% 3pt, 63.4% FT

Full disclosure, I am not and never was a Coleman fan. He made a remarkable jump this past year. So if the staff can do the same thing with Booth they did to Coleman last year, ok. But that was an extraordinary improvement.

He was a freshman playing high usage. How'd Amani do at that...oh wait, he didn't. I'm not interested debating, but Brad, Mike LaTulip, and many others have thoughts different than your's. I'll trust them, but thanks and have a great night!

If you want to compare production and play style of Booth and former Illini. Compare Booth and Michael Finke. Very similar except Finke shot 37% from 3 and Booth was at 30%.

No offense to Michael Finke, but he was not a Big 10 level big, and neither is Booth.

I feel like taking Booth is inverse moneyball. Scouts are talking about bloodlines and how he looks in jeans. Analyst guys are asking “can he hit?”.

I listened to LaTulip. The best thing he said was he doesn’t turn it over. But he failed to mention he averaged 0.5 assists. He simply doesn’t do much of anything at a Big 10 level and it’s not like he played for a bad coach. Shrew knows basketball.

This guy is basically Finke but if Finke only shot 30% from 3
