If his mom is going to be an issue let him go somewhere else. We don’t need those distractions.
No, but we do need his talent and especially his 17 - 20 PPG. They can deal with his mom. The old, "we don't want him anyway" commentary is nothing more than self soothing. If we're 17-12 next year having to win games 62-60.... you'll revisit being ok working with a loud parent. Coaches for 12 year old AAU teams do it daily.

I remember that show! It featured Jerry Reinsdorf, Michael Jordan and Scottie Pippen and it was called "The Last Dance".
Sorry if I'm missing your point, but is this argument in favor of trying to get Storr at all costs??

It'd be great to have Storr, but if he's not interested enough to be an Illini, then let's move the hell on and get another player.

Elite teams do this.
Pretty basic strategic thinking.

Storr is going to the highest bidder, end of story. That might be us, seems like it would be us today, but at any moment someone can swoop in with an offer either bigger than we can afford or bigger than we can justify giving Storr.

So we have to be looking elsewhere for someone else we're satisfied with. That is NOT giving up on Storr, NOT crossing him off the list, it is simply recognizing the strategic reality. Talking to Storr and holding room for him and focusing our efforts on him is a waste of time.

Storr's decision moment will come and we'll either be the top bidder or we won't. Beyond writing down a number on a piece of paper at an unknown moment in the future, our attention should be entirely elsewhere.

just to be clear, are you in favor of getting him regardless of the cost?
I would need to have a better sense of the alternative to answer that question really.

Also, I really do believe the cost is TBD. The staff might think they know how much ammo is out there and how much desire there is for Storr, but they don't and inherently can't.

John Tyson owns original Andy Warhol's. He can get AJ Storr. If Kentucky and Mark Pope thinks that's a move that can save face, they can get AJ Storr.

But that said, Boswell and Storr would be worth going pretty crazy for, IMO. High risk, but Final Four type upside.

AJ Storr is a 20 YO kid who does not know what he does not know. He will find some coach to which he will commit and get a million....and forever wonder why he did not go to play for a coach and team that would make him play to his potential....for his team...for fewer $ but the wise choice. That may likely be the Illini and BU, who were among the first to recognize his fit...or it may be Kansas or some other coach. Regardless, he will not be missed, only replaced. I wish him well but have not seen his potential to lift a team to new heights like TSJr. and MD did. It sure was not the Badgers last year.

Storr is an art aficionado? Who knew. I think you can get some lower tier Monet's for a pretty reasonable price if you need to sweeten the pot a bit.

He'd have to improve for his 17-20 points to come on less than 17-20 shots. He's not a guaranteed (much less already proven) star. He has a high ceiling, and even if he turns out to be great, it might not happen until he gets to the NBA. It would be different if we thought he'd be around for a few years, but expensive one year rentals should be more of a sure thing in my opinion.
