White will be playing more of the 3. At 6’7 he’s not tall enough to play the 4 in Brads offense. Booth is 6’10. But it’s positionless basketball. Brad has the flexibility to move them around.
I'm not sure if I'd quite call it positionless, although I know that term has been tossed out before. But the signing of Boswell and pursuit of Maddox indicates we're going to have a clear distinction between guards, wings and bigs. BUT, it does seem like Brad wants to play 5 out, and probably prefers to have 5 shooters on the floor as much as possible. So it will be interesting to see who they eventually pursue for a 5. I watched Morez some last night in that USA vs world game, and was VERY impressed by how well he moves for a big guy. He has so much potential, but I wouldn't be surprised if Brad wants him to work to develop his outside shot more before he gets a starting role. He seems to have a decent start to one, so hopefully it can be developed and fully integrated into his game. Either way, it does seem like he will get significant playing time next year, although I'd be surprised if he starts right away as a freshman.

Boswell is a more important piece to the puzzle than Storr.

I really want both, and if we can't get Storr it will be important to find someone who brings some of those attributes, but I think people are kind of incorrectly underrating Boswell.

Very good (if a bit inconsistent) player now, and his upside is enormous.

And he's our hometown boy! That's awesome!

Maddox knows one thing-to score the basketball at all 3 levels. Dare I say “elite” athlete.
I don’t think the highlight clips truly show his athleticism. Been to several games and he can absolutely jump out of the gym. Put on a show right before games started with highlight reel dunks. Actually I don’t think he uses his athleticism enough. Falls in love with logo 3s sometimes when he has a physical advantage. If he comes to Illini, hope they can utilize that.

I'm curious..say we land Maddox, Booth and Storr and assume no Hawkins or Domask. Do you think that team is better than last year?
Lots of raw talent with this potential 24-25 squad, thus giving credence to your inquiry and to the comparison. However, the chemistry this past season was A+, and we had two guys playing at their absolute peaks and being named All Big Ten - first team.

Not sure we can expect to repeat that type of chemistry/performance. If in Vegas, I'd have to bet on the 23-24 team. (The good news, however, is that we likely won't run into another UConn squad like this past NCAA tourney.)

Brad is cooking … 😎
If this is in reference to our remaining on-campus visitor, I think it can mean only one thing.

Booth is nowhere close to a starter. He was not good at all at Notre Dame and isn’t anything close to an inside player.

If you started Booth/White, the defense would be a disaster. No rim protection at all. Morez will for sure start over Booth
Yea right dude,what?

I think Boswell/Goode/Rodgers/Davis we know what to expect from them.

The key to next year is getting DGL/White/Morez to maximize their potential. Those 3 are really boom/bust guys where the variance of their performance can be quite high. With Morez, he’s a freshman big. White has been up/down from HS/USC/Lville, and DGL is about reigning him in and getting him working within the flow of the team
Gonna add Harris to this assuming he stays coming back. I really think he has a lot of upside.

There's not a player in the country, IMO, that was better than TJ last year. He was dominant on both ends and carried us in the BTT and NCAAT. That player won't be replicated.

I'm not sure that MD's value can be replicated. He was just a big, big, big time player who was the second of two "go to guys". Man, that guy came through time after time on the big stage, in the bright lights.

With Coleman, very difficult to replace 6'10", athletic, versatile and our second best defender, who again, performed when the lights were bright.

That team is playing UCONN one round too early from being in the Final Four and two rounds from playing for a national championship. I don't think that there was a team, not named UCONN, that we wouldn't have had at least even odds against. We were that good in March.

While we can be very, very good in the scenario that you outlined, we wouldn't be adding a player that got past the first weekend(in some cases didn't make the tournament). The upside would be terrific from a pure talent standpoint, but Brad would be PROBABLY national COY if he pulled everything together and got that group to a second weekend game.
Purdue probably would have beat us.

Agree that we matched up well against anyone else.

Are we no longer looking for a true center? At the risk of being called a self- hating *Canadian*, would a Cohen hire help us with Danny Wolf, if indeed we're interested?

People panicking about what our roster is today need to take some deep breaths. The season officially ended 6 days ago. In the two weeks we have focused on next year’s team, we have added three multi-year (potentially…) players who both raise our floor and our ceiling.
I don’t think we have come anywhere close to exhausting our NIL coffers. We will add more very high quality players to this team, and the guys who are sticking around are only going to get better.
It’s April 14th… we’ve only just entered thunder dome… We will have to wait and see who comes out the other side. One thing is for sure… we are far from done.

Maddox is a more skilled Plummer and Boswell has some (not saying he's as good) Deron Williams in him
Not taking anything away from Maddox. He's a good player and a threat to lead the country in 3pt shooting but wouldn't Conwell seem like a better fit next to Boswell simply from a size perspective while also bringing shooting(and good on the boards for a guard).

A starting lineup with Boswell, Conwell, Storr, Booth, Transfer 5 then bringing Ty, Morez, Goode, DGL, and Harris off the bench would be a team capable of winning the Big10.

Frankly, even if we'd won a natty this season someone would be complaining that it would have been a smoother, more elegant road to the NC hardware if we'd had a proper PG and diabolically crafty inbounding plays.

It's just the way it is. Can't think of too many who readily offer: "Gee, you know what? I was [somewhat/kinda/completely] wrong about that take, no matter how cold it seemed to me at the time."

As for me, I just wanna give it my best shot and, the good Lord willing, things will work out.

Rose goes in the front. :giggle:

Eh. I like the Illini's chances in a third matchup, since it's extremely difficult to beat a good team 3 times in a season.

Plus, Illinois really could have won that 2nd matchup. Were leading until very late and Purdue just hit big shot after big shot.

If they had played again I'm betting on Shannon, Domaks, and Hawkins. Kinda like how the Flyin Illini beat Michigan twice and then lost in the final four.
