Call me old fashioned but Luke Goode was invaluable not just because of his play but because of his role in the culture on the team. I do not like pushing out guys like him even if it’s for a better player. Guys like Goode or Harmon who just play for the team are irreplaceable. I don’t like this at all.
Who said he was pushed out? I doubt that's the case. Maybe he wanted to leave for other reasons, seems like a kid where he is focused on academics and Grad school as well. There might be some options in that arena he is exploring as well

I know I am in the minority, but I hate the way the new system is tearing apart rosters. How do I even start to care about a team that is 90% new every season?

I am not a fan to just root for the laundry. I want consistency in players. And if that means we are a step below the best, I can handle that.
I'm not sure you're in the minority. It would be a good poll question.

I'd rather win with fresh faces than lose with familiar ones.

The transfer portal has evened the playing field for programs like Illinois.

Pretty sure Luke’s brother goes to IU… Luke is a B1G type dude… Makes too much sense for his last year
Depends on if he wants more playing time or the degree. With him graduating with a business degree, getting a MBA or something from Indiana would make sense if the degree is his ultimate goal. If he wants playing time though, he'd be better off looking at a smaller program.

Either way, it has to be easier for his family to get to a game in Indiana than in Illinois. If we want Illinois dudes to come back to us for that reason, I can't really hate on guys from other states doing the same. I'd hate seeing him suit of for IU, but I'm always going to wish him well.

Wish he was staying but I’m hoping he’s leaving because we are getting a shooter that will take his minutes and for the love of god no IU.

I have to say...I get it...but I don't like it. Really gonna miss Luke. He was a great Illini and he'll do well wherever he ends up (please not Indiana!)
Everybody keeps mentioning Indiana... if playing time is what he's looking for... it ain't gonna be there based on the fact IU killing it in the portal... currently killing it more so than we are.

Everyone understands this is terrible, everyone is nonetheless forced to frantically scramble for position in the new environment and some are doing better than others. (Thankfully us among them)

The absolute truth that lies at the bottom of all of this, which you must never forget as the sports business changes globally, is that absolutely every last red cent in the entire industry, every single penny without exception, is directly attributable to the passion of the fans for the game. That’s why TV is interested, that’s why advertisers are interested, that’s what pours the concrete into new arenas, NIL is the most direct version of that relationship yet. The fans are the money, period.

That is the North Star. If you’re ever crossways from that reality, the other shoe is coming.

Goode is the first guy who has left that I am pretty bummed about. Good luck getting someone better in the portal to be the 8th guy.

I don't think that is the minority opinion.

While it is nice to get invested in a kid and watch them grow at The Beloved, I for one have no issue buying in quickly to one year mercenaries such as Domask, QG, etc. It helps that their short tenures are associated with winning, and as long as that maintains the standard then I am A-OK with it.

Honest culture question....will the team continue to raise their hands in the locker room pep talks and say "1,2,3 FamILLy"?

I'm all about the winning and adding winning players...but dayum. This is rough.
