at least Ben can guard the perimeter, right?

it is hard to find a silver lining here

So Morez is leaving. Hamer isn't gone yet and may be retained? Tyler and some of the players do not get along. And BAM and Tomi may not be 'done deals' because recruiting/portal is fluid.

I'm not sure that team would compete in the OVC

It took longer than it should have for Morez to be given an expanded role, but he got there eventually and it was obvious that he would have been a key starter on next year's team. I don't know if I'm buying Ben Humrichous starting for most of the season as a big factor in Morez not returning. It's all about the money, and loyalty only goes so far.

Other info I've heard: Tyler called DGL a b---- at practice, and the players rightfully didn't take that well. Tyler and Morez's dad also do not get along ... at all.

Like I said previously. Not in any way a sustainable model. My interest in college bball has - and continues to - fallen precipitously. They’ve ruined the product completely.
Yep. It’s a 1 month sport now and frankly I have near zero interest in the tourney once it’s a bunch of big conference teams and IL is out. There used to be a couple dogs to cheer for but that’s being killed off by nil and portal. Hoops is a garbage product atm.

Football has issues but the rosters are so much bigger that there is still some continuity. Hoops is like AA baseball. New team each year.

This is what happens when you play Ben Humrichous over a talent that is going to be All-Conference Floor/All-American ceiling good by the time his college career is over.

This is avoided if he plays as much as he deserved from Day 1, not halfway thru the year.

In this day and age, it's all about managing the egos of players, and FAR more importantly, their respective inner circles.

Hate to be blunt, but this was 100% avoidable. And our staff continues to fumble these situations. Mind-boggling and beyond frustrating.
My biggest issue with BU. We struggle to retain guys. I mean sure, money plays a bigger role than ever, but there are things you can do throughout a season to make a player feel the love. You have to keep recruiting even after they're on your roster. The relationships with our players just feels too transactional compared to other programs.

Will we be fine? Yeah. But almost anyone we bring in will be a downgrade to a year 2 Morez.

I felt this Morez news was coming, but I would be interested to understand how the style of play may have impacted this decision. Always felt odd to me to have a guy like Morez in there when this team's first instinct was to jack up 40 three's a game.
I thought he made sense as the counterbalance to the strategy. You (the opponent) can't just defend the arc because you have Morez dominate the paint and rebound the many 3-pt misses, so keeps you honest.

While I agree that Morez > BH I don’t understand what the negative impact was to Morez this season as it played out.

He played major minutes and was a net positive for the team, showed what he could do and was in line for a big jump in role and $$ next year.

That’s great he was committed for two years before arriving but that obviously doesn’t mean anything anymore. Seems to be about how much $$ you can make and I’m sure there’s more to it but whatever

Good luck to the kid but quite obivious $$ trumps all else.
To verify, cause I haven’t heard this before until your post, he had a two year contract/commitment to Illinois? (I’m asking purely out of curiosity…I’m not questioning you or being snarky)
