It is the NCAA’s fault for having arcane rules that the courts reasonably ruled were unfair restraint of trade. They’re compounding the issue by ignoring the core problem which is the inability to have formal contracts simply to maintain the student-athletes’ non-employee status.
And let's be clear here, BEFORE anyone had ever uttered the words "name, image and licensing", the NCAA in its fecklessness and cowardice had for a decade been opening up ever freer transfer rules, explicitly in lieu of and in an obviously doomed effort to prevent player payment.

And then when a free marketplace arrived, it came in through a barely-thought-out backdoor that the NCAA TO THIS DAY is still playing make believe, mostly with itself, isn't a pay to play system.

Amateurism was a farce and an abomination. The transition to professionalism has been a complete abdication of any sense of institutional stewardship, or even understanding of institutional interests in the first place.

As with player movement, so with school movement.

NIL or not no program of our caliber should have this much turnover year after year… getting rid of TA was the biggest mistake he’s tied to multiple Chicago 5 star prospects in 2027-2028
Wow that's crazy for a guy that's never recruited a 5-star. And guys that are at least two years away.

It's supposed to work that way. But when you're spending most of your time setting screens up top and the defense has zero respect for your shot on the roll, there's not much to guard. Inside five feet is a different story.

I don't care what anyone says, Morez is a 5. He'll always be that. If Illinois wants to run an offense with 5 out then your "big" needs to be able to put it on the deck outside 20 feet and make the other team at least think about them being a threat. How many of the teams left have a traditional big starting at the 5?
Duke, Alabama, Purdue, Auburn, Florida

Morez was near the top rebounder amongst high schoolers. He has sticky hands, grabs rebounds others can't. A high percentage two near the basket is statistically more desirable than a 3....especially at Illinois % last year.

Kansas/Bill Self has won a lot with hi/low bigs. We had that with Tomi and Morez.

With bad outcomes there is always a search to blame someone...BU has had some miscalculations this past year. But biggest issue just might be lack of right/left limits with the portal and college sports right now.

I agree that BU needs to look at staff, seems like the younger less experienced coaches have more pull than the TA/Chet Frazier types.

And all of this is spoken in hindsight. Humrichous was projected by nearly everyone to be a better fit in the starting lineup. Humrichous was a grad transfer that shot 41% in the MVC and was getting NBA talk. Clearly, it didn’t translate but no point trying to rewrite history.

Morez has since said that he doesn’t want his career to end up like Kofi at Illinois. The issue isn’t the playing time or the minutes or who’s in front of him. The issue was his role on the team. Do you want Morez on the team if it means he shoots x amount of mid rangers and 3s a game at a bad clip? Would you want Kylan back next year if he demanded 8 3s a game? If Edey listened to Painter and sat in the paint every game even though he could shoot the 3 like he’s doing In the league, who does Morez think he is that he can demand an increased role?

Gotta be some illegal stuff in there somewhere. Hopefully whoever is paying the NIL starts taking legal action on the schools/agents poaching these kids. What a disaster the NCAA has caused, not just because of Morez, but the whole thing.

If what Ked said about Morez is true then he has some bad advice being given to him. Expecting him to be a shooter and initiator from day one is wild

As far as the "Big Donors" having a say on the decisions being made on the direction on the Illini basketball team .....why shouldn't they? If Warren Buffett invested 1 million dollars in your company you better believe he will have a say in how it is run. I imagine Josh Whitman's phone has a low battery today

I wonder if the reason staff (reportedly) was leaning on Ty to stick around.?
I like Ty but didn’t we see that good rebounding negated by sub-par shooting can only take you so far in the tournament? I hope Underwood will find proven major D1 shooters in the portal and that he hires a defensive-minded AC who can make good offensive players better defenders.

If true he had a signed NIL, then I would hope there would be penalties for reneging.

I'm sorry but this is such a bad, reactionary take. The issue was roster construction. They were limited on how much Tomi & MJ could play together b/c there were no other big options. I'm usually in agreement with your stuff & I know you're getting a lot of likes on this b/c of how bad Ben was, but this is a bad take.

That won’t bode well for his long term career if it’s found out that TA is doing that. What HC would want that on your staff. Don’t burn bridges.
