Is he respected by players? Does he act like a tool? Can he recruit? Does he use his pieces to the best of his abilities? Are we able to retain players with the way he coaches and the type of offense he runs? Does that offense equate to national championships? So many

None of this is quantifiable, let alone could be known to a bunch of message board people on the internet

If Ben comes back on minimal NIL, with the expectation that he is spot minutes off the bench until he shows that he can hit 40% from 3 during games, I'm fine with that. If he insists on anything more than minimal NIL, I wish him the best of luck elsewhere. He had his shot, and more. He did not deliver.
The question was a simple hypothetical. I knew loyalty would take it to the extreme like always. Good times....

A good offense doesn't score 100+ multiple times and fall on it's face way too often. That gives you a good scoring average but loses a lot of games.

I dont care about scoring average, let's use measurables and indexes that are not pace-dependent or otherwise skewed/noisy

The constant insistence on replacing an assistant coach who has ran a top 3 offense last year and a top 15 offense this year because he is the son of the coach is silly to me

Why isn't this focus placed on the defensive mastermind who gave us the 80th ranked D last year and 40th ranked D this year?
I’m not understanding what you’re talking about? The only stat that matters is wins and losses. The stats about top 3 offense and most wins in the Big Ten over 5 seasons means absolutely nothing. What matters is how many Sweet 16s, E8s , Final 4s or National Championships did you win with a top 3 offense. Top 3 offense last season got Illinois finishing 7th place in The Big Ten conference. Crushed is the BTT by Maryland and out the NCAA tournament in the second round.

We concerned yet by this being a theme every offseason?
Let me put in a sentence- Underwood doesn't build the type of culture and rapport with players that inclines them to want to keep playing for him... There is such a massive difference in the culture of our football and women's basketball program than in our men's basketball program- and it's a big time problem.

But please, do add your own version of what you think the them is (I'd love to hear it)

It does seem like it's reaching a boiling point. If we're having these same conversations next year with same coaching staff, something will have to give. Wish we were a bit more proactive but, JW must still have some trust in Underwood rn.

If we keep KB and Tomi that is way more than we started with this season. 40% of our starters instead of 0%. Throw in Ben, Jake and Jason and we have SOMETHING? Pshaw!

And you see our highly rated offense as the source of these issues, and not the poorly rated defense?

I know this is the new college landscape of guys coming and going, but on its face Brad seems to be failing at retention of priority players.
He’s failing at a lot of things. As an Illini fan since 1979, this is the first time I have lost all respect for an Illini coach in my life. Others have been incompetent, but Brad can no longer be trusted to do the right thing. I didn’t want to believe he’s the same guy he was 5 years ago, but he is. Heard he changed. He hasn’t. Our coach should be honorable and know his place. Sad day for me. He’s pulling a Cubit and while family comes first in life, it can’t be at the expense of others. If Josh doesn’t do something now, the decline will continue. He’s no Lou Henson, that’s for sure.
