The dichotomy on this board is crazier than Britt Lower’s in Severance …

Morez hits the portal, Sky is Falling

Ty stays - OMG the glue is back and Rez sucked anyway.

Tomi may test the waters? We’re lost, fire BU

Oh man, Dix, Sellers. Sarr, and Z? “It’s happening!”

Dix to Creighton - we didn’t want him anyway … but how did we get out bid and why hasn’t anyone committed yet? we’ll be lucky to scratch a team together and prepare for a down year …

Granted, not all posters echoed these sentiments, but it’s the general vibe here.

Please - allow impressional young men to make their decision - regardless of reason. There is no need to slam anyone … they are making what they feel is the best decision - wish them the best. And there is no need to go DEFCON 1 every other minute … This happened last year. Sit back and enjoy the info our insiders provide.

The team will fill out and we’ll all be just as excited next year as this.

Seems to me people say like 14 things and then focus on the one thing that ends up being correct. Most of this information is available on reddit or twitter in some form already.

While we wait to lockdown some new Illini commitments, is there any new word on potential coaching staff candidates?

You would think Illinois fans would get tired of being misled about recruiting by the same people year after year.
This is why I've regressed to a position of mild interest and heavy gif sharing. The portal moves fast and lasts most of the off-season, so why get worked up? At this point in the off-season, I'm more concerned about who we can retain/re-sign rather than new people we can bring in.

I'm sure the various posters generally operate on good faith, but it's mpossible for anyone to have up-to-the-minute information other than the players in question.

I'll admit to being antsy about assistant coaches, though

Conversely, that’s the only silver lining I see.
Will the real Eye please stand up?

Here is the key for the next couple of months

"The two most powerful warriors are patience and time!"
"Our patience will achieve more than our force."
"Patience" - Guns N' Roses 1988

Illinois won’t wait for WR to make his decision in June. If WR wants to wait for June and his replacement (say Sarr) will commit conditional on WR not being on the team then Illinois will take Sarr. You don’t wait and lose both of them. This same scenario happened for Illinois last year.
I was thinking about it more from the prospective players point of piew

If BumBrickHouse is getting one single dollar of NIL or sniffing more than 7 mpg next year thats a failure of an offseason IMO
I do believe that you should warm up to Ben. We're going to be in for another 30 games. He'll have a better role this year, which is good and it'll be year two in the program, which is also good.

The issues with losing players off the roster, then whiffing of options A and possibly B....options C and D move up the food chain. That's how guys like Ben and Jake end up on the roster, playing fairly large roles.

This SG role has been really tough for us to fill the last two years - we have one of the best offenses in the country we shoot the threes more than the high major teams and nobody wants to come here? It doesn't make a lot of sense - we eventually filled it with KJ last year and moved Kylan over, but just to name a few that we were rumored to be in on last year:
AJ Storr
Maddox
Claude
Richmond
Koby Brea
Marcus Hill

And this year Dix and Sellers have turned us down - I'm starting to get a complex - what is going on? It's a players market and obviously every top kid has a lot of suitors so you are going to miss on more than you get, but we literally have gotten none of the top SG transfers, Louisville has gotten three of them this year alone. But you would think we'd have a really attractive situation - it doesn't add up
Nobody wants to come here? I think it is more like "not everybody wants to come here". Hundreds of D1 schools to choose from, different styles, locations, personalities, climates and so on. Illinois has a lot to offer but it is not going to be everyone's cup of tea, no reflection on Illinois. Of the nearly 1900 entrants into the 2024 portal 528 kids left out of 2025 b-ball. About 1350 kids found a new home or returned to their former school. Thats about 4 transfers per school. Portal drags on for 60 days with lots of roadblocks and variables, very hard to have expectations in such a fluid environment. Nothing surprising about what has happened so far this year. Always going to be a lot of recruiting "fails" and a few successes. Thanks to the staff our successes are 4 & 5 star recruits instead of 3'S. It is what it is and if that gives you indigestion shut down the computer for a couple months until it is all sorted out. Looking forward to next season.

Bum to hear that we might miss out on Sellers due to him not feeling wanting to be the 6th man. Would have like Josh Dix addition but what mom wants mom gets. There's nothing we can do with that. I am confident Big Z will land here due to the Tomi and Orlando connection. I am not oppose to getting Storr if he is indeed asking for way less than he did last season. If we get Storr playing to the level he did at Wisky then I'll take it.

I think the Ivisic twins play at times together but it wont be most if the time. We need a 6'9" or 6'10 type guy that can rebound, guard bigs in the post, move laterally, and hopefully hit a bit from outside the lane. We struggle guarded some quality 4s in the post. Hopefully the twins can get stronger and be improved post defenders.
I believe the guy described here is in the NBA.

I may have missed it, have we shown any interest in Stanković from Serbia? He’s 20yo, 6’-8” guard putting up solid numbers in Euro.

Not really sure what thread to put this comment into, but I had recorded the McDonald's High School AA game from earlier this week and just finished watching it. It is really noticeable that this year's attendees are very long and athletic. The kids look as though they are in college already. The disappointing thing is that the typical top schools have these players locked up. I believe Duke has at least 3 of the players including the Boozer twins and they did really well with the freshman they signed last year. Other universities with their usual fair share of the players: UConn, Arkansas, Louisville, Tennessee, Houston, Arizona, etc. BYU also well represented.

The rich get richer.
This is why I think NIL is a bit of a red herring. The teams that drew guys pre-NIL generally lead in NIL today, with some minor differences.

I agree. His rebounding, hustle and defense improved significantly the last 10 games. Continuity is important to culture so keeping Ben and Jake is important. Also keeps with "get old stay old" mantra.

Once he realized he did not have to launch a 3 pointer every time he touches the ball he added more value. He was passable guarding 5's when Tomas needed a break and Morez was injured. I also think working with Fletch will improve his strength and athleticism. I suspect the game will slow down for him next year and he will be a more effective shooter.

He will never be a great defender but if he uses his size and continues strong effort I think he is playable. I like him as spot starter and 15-20 mpg off bench. I think he realizes he is not NBA bound and may just be enjoying another year in college at a good P4 program
