why, because this staff underachieves in march and we just had a very poor year?

#1 seed - ousted in second game. loyola was underseeded, boohoo. if we were any good, we would have won (and maybe made an adjustment at the half).
#4 seed - lucky to beat #13 seed and got killed by the lower #5 seed
#8 seed - killed by the lower #9 seed (i know this game is always a toss-up but still a poor result)
#3 seed - elite 8 and beat a #2 seed: good!
#6 seed - after middle-of-the-pack b10 finish and worst ever loss, crash out before second weekend again in a very winnable game. come out from the half and give up, what, a 12-0 run?

yeah big 10 play has been pretty good. i think a program's success and standing is made in march. 1 second weekend in 20 years, and 1 in the last 5 when we've been "good". atrocious.

We don't have infinite money, so the staff has to balance priorities and value. Even if Illinois is among the top 15 or so programs overall on NIL, that doesn't mean individual players aren't valued by other programs enough to put them over what we would. Storr was a great example of Illinois bowing out, and yet they got Will, KJ, and Kylan.
1) This
2) We may not have been outbid, the fact it is close to home & maybe some local pull figured into the equation, maybe the fit, maybe a bit of a Creighton fan growing up
3) May also be some extra NIL opportunities for a more local boy to Creighton; more appeal in the local market

Maybe Dix read the forum and saw all of the fans clamoring for 29% high volume shooters instead and decided to let us have that instead of a 42% sharp shooter.

We got bounced from the tournament two weeks ago and have supposedly been having back channel conversations with the guys we want for months so why does it feel like we are unprepared or lagging behind everyone else?
There are very few programs right now who truly know what their roster is going to look like next season. It's super early; we're not lagging behind. It's the same thing every year - we'll get excited about top targets, miss on them, board will panic, Brad will end up up pulling in talent (guys we aren't even aware of). Rinse and repeat.

Making this post now so we don't do a third offseason in a row next year where insiders and posters alike assume five of the top nine available transfers are going to go to Illinois in early April.

Because no one knows what is going on. Absolute chaos every day. The entire landscape is still the Wild West. I don’t enjoy this version of college basketball.

Boswell
Rodgers
Ben
Ivisic
Ivisic

That’s what it looks like to me. Not sure if that’s a tourney team though.

I don’t think that’s our starting lineup, but if it is I’d still bet on Underwood to make the tournament.

The thing about those back channel conversations is other programs are having them too, and then when the bidding war begins we aren't the only ones throwing in money.

I do think this notion of us as top-10 in NIL deserves some skepticism though. If it's mostly about money these days, and we have more money than 95% of other programs, shouldn't we be hitting on our Plan A guys with a little higher frequency?

Last season portal winners and losers per CBS on May 2
Winners - Kansas, Cal, Michigan Indiana, DePaul , Memphis Marquette (no losses), Xavier, Ole Miss, Missouri,
Losers - Seton Hall, Miami Wisconsin, Indiana State, Washington State, Florida State, Dayton, Minnesota

Based on this season's performance it does appear to be better to be on the winner list than loser list but you're not doomed (good job, Wisconsin, way to lose Storr!)

There is gobs of talent in the portal and we still have the cash we were going to give Dix. And players are still entering the portal each day. Some teams have handed their biggest cash bag over. Hard to know who we will land.

I think the Ivisic twins play at times together but it wont be most if the time. We need a 6'9" or 6'10 type guy that can rebound, guard bigs in the post, move laterally, and hopefully hit a bit from outside the lane. We struggle guarded some quality 4s in the post. Hopefully the twins can get stronger and be improved post defenders.
I know it is always fun to find the next shiny object, but is our red-shirt freshman a candidate for back-up center? 5-10 minutes a game?

Are there any big names still expected to hit the portal?

There will be plenty... April 26 is deadline to throw your name in the NBA draft

Also, there are probably a whole bunch of international players we don't even know about right now

3/5 of these guys won't be starting come the first game of the season. Plenty of adds to come.
Tomi and Bam are starting. It will depend on who we land, but I think Ty starts. I struggle to see him coming back if the pitch was rotation minutes and a chance at 6th man of the year.

I was thinking more of a 4 since the twins will struggle to stop a 6'8" taller skilled type guy with some strength guy that move like Ark, Kent, 7ft Wolf or guys others have.

Maybe the Ivisic twins can get stronger and improve thier foot speed. I'd expect nearly about 40 minutes of the twins at center

The pitch and what actually happens are worlds apart, usually. Especially if you're not an elite player. Morez Johnson will find that out the hard way.
