I honestly am dumbfounded that all of this information is swirling around out there at other big schools, and some of our big $$ guys are withholding funds, now they are going to try and squeeze more money from season ticket holders to do the reseating at SFC for a team who might be a mid pack B1G team at this point.. Not going to happen.. I will take that extra and buy a new smart tv and watch without driving 2 hours every home game and freezing.
They will still sale out.

JFC.

What freaking good does it do to beat a dead horse as much as you do?

Watching grown men throw tantrums and talk :poop: about kids is comical. It's college basketball. Y'all take this stuff WAY too seriously.

Maybe we just hope for a bad year and then fire Brad and move forward with a different staff? How does that sound Indy Illini Fan

Can I just humbly ask to what extent do we actually know this is true?

Do Werner & Co. acknowledge that Tyler and Hamer are the OC and DC of the team? Does BU talk about it publicly?

For the millionth time … Tyler is the OC … Hamer is the DC …

If Werner says it then it’s true and everyone else just has no clue and bad info ? Come on man …

Respect Jeremy and the product he puts out there and if he wants to charge for it then by all means and he and his staff put in a TON of work … But let’s be honest here, a lot of their information comes from the staff … You aren’t going to see them take shots at the guys they’re getting info from …

Steven Pearl is actually the Associate Head Coach (higher title than other ACs) and yes, is listed as the "Defensive Coordinator" (Tyler does not have a similar title).

And keep in mind, if the offense is Tyler's, it's been a top-15 offense the past two seasons. So if you're criticizing the hire, you're criticizing it for nepotism, not performance.
I am not anywhere near a hoops coach - just a fan who watches the games very closely (intensely?).

That said, some of the stuff I saw when I watched:
- last year's O was TSJ doing anything he wanted, because he could, and Domask's Booty Ball, because he could. I don't recall being impressed by a system of set plays that worked all that well. But I am no coach.
- this year's O had some good set plays, but I did not see them all that often, or our guys just forgot how to execute, but we fell back all too often to volume 3-pt shooting, and our % was way below what it should have been, based on each player's history. In a few games, we drove inside and won tough fought games that way, but did not continue to do that going forward - a real headscratcher. And when we ran into an opponent with good D, they shut us down. So we may meet some metrics to earn a top O rating, but it just didn't pass the eye test to me. Just my opinion.
- on D, all I can say is we sure didn't seem to be able to get stops when we needed them. I think our guys played with passion and intensity, and never quit, but they got beat way too often. And, it seemed to me we had way fewer steals than a good D team would have. Again, just my opinion.

So, to me, our team significantly underperformed, relative to their individual abilities. This was very frustrating for me to watch, as a crazed fan. And this, to me, has a lot to do with coaching. JMVHO.

We may not be totally out on Sarr quite yet … But the way this one has gone, we could be out within the hour … The number has gotten pretty insane for him …

Tbh while I'd love to get Sarr, I much rather take all the resources, money, time and effort in this recruitment and put it towards Watkins.

Getting Sarr will give us the b10 championship ceiling we want, however, Watkins is the type of piece that makes you an elite team from day one. A floor and ceiling raiser. He's also the type of wing that fits perfectly with what the staff has done so far. Its probably too perfect to be true.

I’m criticizing the offensive performance this year …

Stop shooting so many 3s when it isn’t working …

Also - it doesn’t take a genius to figure out our SLOB, OOTO, OOB plays all absolutely SUCK … OR we just have no plays at all based on what I see sometimes …

They worked pretty well when Gentry was here and now it’s clear to everyone watching we have no clue what we’re doing and it turns into an ISO and a bad shot …

Come on look at the talent on the teams the last two seasons. We should have been top 5 with that amount of talent. You have TSJ, CoHawk and Marcus last season and 2 1rst round NBA pics and Tomi would probably be a late 2nd if he entered the draft. That team was loaded any one could have coached them to a top 15 offense.

It's not a question of taking shots, but just understanding the allocation of roles. As someone mentioned, titles like OC and DC are things that are starting to arrive in college basketball.

To be completely frank, the campaign of hysteria regarding the likelihood of BU taking another job the past three years has by now been outed as, at best, a hallucinatory and motivated exaggeration. It has been a figment of the Loyalty imagination all along, it never really existed in the legitimate media.

It has led me to be considerably more skeptical about the even more hysterical campaign against this seemingly minor character in Hamer whose prominence in the program doesn't seem to be so narratively grand anywhere other than here. Loyalty schtick is all fun and games, but when it becomes this secret esoteric knowledge that unlocks all the hidden truths of Illinois Basketball, I feel like a healthier sense of journalistic skepticism is in order.

Tell me the last time you saw Geoff or Orlando in the huddle during a TO?
Against Xavier when I was there in the building?

Again, what exactly is the claim here? That we're secretly sidelining our lavishly paid Associate Head Coach?

I get the argument. But the items you highlighted are just that - an effective offense.

I'd get it if TSJ and Domask came to UI and were the caliber of players we saw/had the same style of play. But they weren't. Texas Tech wasn't configured to let TSJ run out in transition. Nor was he getting to the foul line as consistently. Domask's game was not booty ball heavy.

We can't attribute it all to just talent because it's not that black/white. Brad raised your expectations for what their individual abilities are. So saying the team underperformed (an elite 8 team) is factious

Last note - with all the talk of Brad's inability to adjust in-game, we don't talk enough about how good he is at adapting to the talent he recruits. The # of systems we've had, our ability to just throw away what worked to try something new is amazing. Brad could easily just settle on doing the same thing every year. but he doesn't.

I'm getting so tired of this brave new world of the portal and $$ that I'm starting to lose interest in the landscape of college basketball. All these guys with their agents amounts to a boatload of unrestricted free agents. Does their education matter to them at all? Do their academic credits transfer successfully? It's all very sad to me because I have relished college basketball since the 1950s.

They didn't sell out all games this season, maybe student seats but not all regular seats and it will be worse next season. Heck 30% of the students seats were vacant last year so plenty of empty seats. They want a $500 donation to IFund just to get the mobile passes up in the upper 5 rows... not gonna happen.

Illinois is becoming like my other favorite team: STL Cardinals. Always rumored to want everyone, always too cheap to get them, always acting at the end like they actually didn’t want who they whiffed on…
