People are really sleeping on the type of season Tomi is about to have/how good our front court is going to be.
Heck, people slept on Tomi this year. He was IL's most important player, IMO. Having his brother with him next season should be good for both Tomi and the team.

Tomi had a fantastic year. Better than I ever could have imagined. He was terrific, IMO.

I can live w 2 turnovers per game. I cant live w 6 turnovers per game.

Vs Northwestern 31pts
Vs Missouri 26 pts
Vs Vandy 17 pts
Vs USC 20 pts

He did fine vs b10 and sec
He had an incredible game against Missouri. I'll give you that one.

He had a good game against USC too. But USC weren't exactly toward the top of the B1G conference (17-18 overall, 4th from the bottom) and USC didn't start really playing better as a team until the end of the season. Andrej played against them on USC's 4th game of the season.

On those 31 points, they weren't against Northwestern. They were against Northwestern State, a 16-16 team that finished in the middle of the pack in the Southland conference.

Against Vandy, Andrej scored those 17 points on 5-12 shooting and turned the ball over 4 times.

Are those games vs. Missouri, USC, and Northwestern State an indication of Andrej's actual capabilities or are they outliers? Given the strong noise Andrej will be an Illini, I hope that these games indicate that he'll find success, but given what I'm seeing in his overall stats, I'm concerned that these games might be outliers.

You all know that moving your feet is something that athletic kids have to learn in order to play defense and get on the floor? The best example of this is Will Riley and his progression in that regard last season. Will was a gangling teen that could change direction pretty rapidly for a 17 yr. old kid at 6'8". However, whether Fletch had a part or not, he improved his ability to stay in front of most defenders as the course of the season progressed. He will never be able to guard Walter Clayton Jr. or the ilk, but the point is every kid coming to college has a defensive ability that almost none have tapped. It only takes a desire to excel and a lot of work to make that ability evident.....and that is the job of the coach.

Are we getting to a time that even recruiting H.S. seniors be a thing of the past for this program. It seems all the effort and $$ is for portal transfers.
I really don’t see the point in recruiting high schoolers anymore UNLESS you are getting the best of the best. Freshmen, even really talented ones, are going to play like freshmen, make mistakes, and be really up and down. We saw that last year.

I think in this day and age, going after as much experience as you can makes sense since you are only guaranteed 1 year with a player.

The price for Andrej is over $3 million as of this evening ...
Feels like the supply of really, really good players is low and the demand is high. Not only that, programs are willing to keep raising the stakes. At what point do these guys just say “the fit at Illinois is best, let’s get this moving”? I’m hoping that will be the case here.

Does this mean we are gonna get another "the tean is looking elsewhere" post? We're we expecting his price to go up like this?

Tomi was pretty elite from the arc for a guy his size. A terrific passer too if he can get better at some of the bad ones he got baited into. And if he can ever develop a dependable jumper from 8 ft. rather than his flick shot, he could be All-America. I am certain my observations and more have been noted by the staff and look forward to his 25-26 season. Kid is a star.

I’d love to say I’d take a little less to go back to where it started (Illinois) but if I’m not making the league I’m absolutely getting the biggest bag I can. Location and role be damned.

There's no doubt this is true, but the key word in your post is "athletic kids." If a kid isn't as gifted of an athlete or isn't as naturally quick of foot, there's going to be a lower ceiling to how good of a defender he can be than a more naturally athletic kid with better inherent foot speed/quickness. Yes, workouts, discipline, and coaching are part of the equation, the later part of which concerns me, because last I checked, Zach Hamer was still the assistant coach in charge of our defense.

Miller can do what he wants, but he’s a grown man. He’s not 16. Figure out where YOU want to go and sign there.

To put it more succinctly, grow a pair.

The price tag for Kennard Davis Jr (SIU) is reportedly roughly the same as Miller and he doesn't have all of the handler baggage/circus

If we are going to pivot, lets start there

EDIT: Davis wants to be a starter though and that isn't guaranteed here
I like that if it means he is willing to work to earn having starter minutes.

How far are we $$ wise from gaslighting the fan base into thinking that Andrej was never the guy and we have another guy locked down who will be pulling out of the NBA draft?

I'm afraid IL doesn't understand the free market. Pick the guy that you want, and then pay what it costs.
Exactly. We can’t keep saying that other schools are overpaying our targets. We simply aren’t willing to pay top price. Maybe we can’t afford that, but then we should maybe stop kidding ourselves that we should be shopping on the top shelf.
