Are you saying that Illinois can not keep up or will not keep up? If the answer is we can’t, is the reason based on current staff, inherent financial limitations, or are we just a small market, second tier school? I got a decree here because I believed we were a world class place.

The price for Andrej is over $3 million as of this evening ...

I get that there are big donors out there who can float cash for these top targets. What is the overlap between big hoops donors and big football donors?
At what point does filling a need on one team impact the availability of money to the other team to get and retain players?

And yes, I'm thinking about how do we both get a big fish for basketball and keep a big fish for football. Are the same donors getting constant calls for hundreds of thousands of dollars more for a one year deal to a kid?

Run/jump isn’t the main problem. It’s lateral feet quickness that can keep your man in front of you. Rodgers struggled mightily chasing guards when he played last. The only quick feet guy we have on the roster is Boswell. Playing man to man with guys that can’t move their feet is a recipe for disaster
The super quick guards gave Ty some trouble but he's fine for the most part and has had another year of working with Fletch and developing.

If we don’t close something quick the price for Ace will be 1.5 and for Andrew will be over 4. Crazy we walked from Dame for 2.5 mil
If we "got him" for that 2.5 million, he may have reneged. Wild West in recruiting now.

Expecting Illinois to close down Andrej soon, the goal is an early week announcement next week. Number I have heard is around 2.8 million.
Hope you’re right. That would be a nice post Easter treat. On a related note, I should have played basketball.

Are we getting to a time that even recruiting H.S. seniors be a thing of the past for this program. It seems all the effort and $$ is for portal transfers.
Recruiting high school kids is really a crap shoot these days. When it is time for them to commit, there's no certainty about the needs of collegiate teams. No one is sure who might still be around for the following year. Who is going pro? Who is hitting the portal? Who might sustain season long injuries? Which teams may have blown through their payroll and which teams might be sitting on a pile of cash? Not to mention, which coaches might still be with the team when the prospect hits campus?

wonder now about 'locker room issues' if the recent addition gets 2.8 million while the holdover players who announced they were coming back shortly after the season ended, showing some loyalty to the program, are only getting a fraction of that.

Andrej could flourish in our offense. The kid averages 18 pts last season on a Cal team that was not offensively great. Lack of weapons had him carrying that offense, but put him on our team with Kylan, Tomi, Big Z, etc. would ease pressure off of him.
