I'm not saying I disagree but to play devils advocate a bit we also said the same thing last year about being the deepest Illini.

Then Carey Booth never really played, Ben wasn't great shooting and is not a good defender, White was MIA for weeks mid season, Morez broke his wrist, Tomi got mono, Boswell was bad for like 20+ games and shooting under 20% from 3 at one point, DGL would rarely get tick, and Kasparis got worse as the year went on and defenses focused on him. Oh and Ty redshirted at the last minute

Just saying that a lot of things can between now and October.

Personally I still think they are missing a piece mainly being a versatile perimeter defender with some size. One big splash away from being a national contender on paper.
I agree that Illinois is "missing a piece" on its roster for the upcoming season. A "versatile defender with some size" would be nice... and even better if that player was also a scorer/shooter! Surely, we can find someone who somewhat fits that bill (probably not a "big fish") and would only require $200,000 - $300,000 for a commitment.

Illinois sees the need to add a combo-guard. Will be tough to find one who fits, though.

I agree, I'd love Luka too - having seen more of his tape now, he would be instant offense off the bench and a great shooter and big ten ready now. But to set expectation that's really all he is, a scorer primarily through his shooting - he doesn't rebound, defend or create opportunities for others. For the role he would play with us next year, he would slide in perfectly as a rotation SG
Ditto. I think that Luka Bogavac would be a perfect fit for the 25-26 Illinois roster. Do you think the Illini could afford the necessary dollars to sign him? And do you think that Bogavac would commit to be a "rotation SG" for the Illini?

Interesting zag for Duke going away from recruiters to player development folks. They might have the benefit of doing this because their brand is so strong that the recruitment process is different compared to 99% of other programs, so their sell is more about professional readiness than "should I go here?".
It's an interesting development. I think colleges need less recruiting time in US because it is heavily concentrated during the portal time. However, they need to expand their European presence. That should balance out.

6'6" 225-pound Senior Guard Damari Monsanto of UT San Antonio: I'm not sure about his ballhandling, his defense, or what he would "cost" the Illini, but that kid can SHOOT! 42.0% on 3s and 93.3% on FTs.

Another possible late transfer could be 6'4" 184-pound Junior Guard TK Simpkins of Elon. He's a tough Brooklyn kid that averaged 16.4/3.1/2.6 on 42.3/36.7/75.6 shooting this past season. Again, I'm not sure about his defense or what he would "cost" the Illini, but he'd be worth taking a look at.

They usually have way way more talent than is necessary to win a title. If I was them, I would definitely look for coaches who excel in development.

He would have to change his name to Luka Bogavic..... 😆

If our players were cheeses, what cheese would each one be? Would those cheeses complement each other? Would we need to recruit new cheeses to round out the menu?

Would we still be Swiss cheese on defense?

Do the new freshmen signees get no mention? Hoping they're not Limburger.
