As the Sleepers guys said "Puff....Puff....Pass."
But I'm now reading that Ohio State and some other high D-1 programs are looking at a possible Puff Johnson transfer. There must be so much more to this young man than his statistics show. I think that an athletic, experienced, 6'8" 210-pound SG/SF would be a nice fit on the Illinois 25-26 roster.

In a very nice spot right now.

OA is really working this one.
Go get him, OA. Work some recruiting magic. Alex Constanza is exactly the type of player Illinois needs in the Class of 2026. 1. SHOOTER! 2. 6'8" tall. 3. Athletic. 4. Skilled.

Even if it isn't there

Things got a lot harder for them though, with no NBA draft plus most of the major players backing out (and a Euro team isn’t going to match what a college team will give him in NIL, starter level players get like $800k over there).

When it comes to Dame Sarr, you can play the money game but there's something I don't like where it seemed like we discovered him and then he paraded our offer around to draw interest. It really does make sense he'd end up at Kansas, home to big money questionable character players.
If I’m not mistaken didn’t the same exact thing happen last off-season with Egor Demin?

From what I had read various places, info coming from people who would have some reasonable way of knowing (if only via premium subs to beat writer content, I mean who knows), Sarr's agent raised the sticker price nearly every time Illinois had a conversation with him.

Originally they were talking in the $1.25 to $1.5 M range. Duke got involved. Oregon got involved. Miami got involved. Couple others too. Agent also used the NBA Draft as leverage when he started getting rotation minutes for Barc A team (i.e., we will stay out of the draft if you commit to paying us this number right now, etc etc). At some point his agent was asking nearly $4 M (I also understand we had given up long before the number got there).

Illinois took Andrej, Duke took Coward, Oregon took on Simpkins & Pryor (although they still may be involved, not sure), Miami got Allen & Malovec. Then it's become clearer that Sarr isn't going in this year's draft, he isn't welcome back with Barcelona, so on and so forth.

Given how this seems to have played out, have to imagine his entire camp is in absolute shambles right now lol.
It's 100% their fault :ROFLMAO:

Wasn't he the mystery guy Lville was talking about before Sarr even came into the picture? Maybe I'm remembering incorrectly...

I just keep going back to a lot of things in this new world, if you are going to spend that much money, if you are going to turnover your roster every year, if you are going to bring in guys from foreign lands that no one knows, you better win. And I'm not talking 20 wins, 5th in the Big Ten winning 1 tourney game. If you're going to completely change the way college basketball has been for decades, you better win big.

Except if everyone else is operating in this new world the same way, you have to do these things just to remain at the same level. The choice is not "sacrifice the local connection to players in order to win a National Championship", it's "sacrifice the local connection in order to just remain competitive." If you want to "win big" you also need even more money than the big donor schools, and frankly get lucky with some guys outperforming or developing surprising chemistry, and you need to have excellent coaching across the board, etc.

I'm guessing that recruiting and keeping all local Illinois kids, and going 8-20 each year wouldn't keep anyone happy either.

any chance at boogie fland or no?
Looks like no… I can’t see him here based on our back court currently. Would be too many high end guys for a two spot rotation. Had we not nabbed Petro… I am all in.
If we add someone I would think it is a solid guy off the bench who does not command a big bag.

Excellent! I wasn't looking forward to multiple pages of posters drooling over the kid..... Glad it's done and over with. We got our team, only possible addition is if Will Riley comes back and that is looking extremely unlikely each day that passes. I wish the NBA draft were tomorrow....

He’s still waiting to see if Will is coming back!
Wouldn't that be something if he commits to the ILLINI as planned to play on the same team as his friends? Just waiting on Will....

our lineup is desperately missing another star piece (if you truly have aspirations of winning big).

it's been alluding to here before (and i appreciate those realistic enough to recognize)....this is a good team capable of another tournament, possibly a S16 as its best cause. But not a F4 or E8 team.

I mean... if we add to choose between Fland/Petrovic, would it be crazy to say Petrovic? Especially considering he's such a pure point who can set the table.
