Duke actually grabbed this fella, zero stars, averaged 1.8ppg last year for Rice

EDIT: Oh, and this guy too

View attachment 43088

And they won’t see the court until Duke is up 30 … They also came to Duke for 0 NIL … They are essentially PWOs … Like AJ Redd & Fagbemi for us …

We are going to be paying Davis … They expect him to play …

They are over prioritizing shooting IMO …

You need 3-4 guards/wings who can really freaking shoot …

And the rest of your guys, including your bigs need to be athletic dawgs that can guard, and rebound …

See: Houston … Cryer, Sharp, Uzan … Surround them with dawgs who are long, athletic and willing to guard …

I might be wrong but I don’t think that Robert’s kid for them attempted a single 3 pointer … But he busted his butt on the glass, always boxed out and guarding the other teams best post player at an ELITE level … Tugler & Francis … Same thing … They couldn’t have attempted more than 10 threes between all 3 of them …

Those are the kinds of bigs we need …

It freaking works …
Well what’s strange to me is after we lost to Houston in 2022 it seemed like Brad wanted to go in that direction. But the past couple of years have felt like a pretty sharp pivot. I wonder what drove the change.

EDIT: I still wonder what drove the change, but I really hope it’s not that Tyler is OC and we are using our resources to juice our offense so he can tell future employers he was O coordinator for top 15 offenses or whatever. I sincerely hope that’s not it.

Brad has pivoted every year since 2022 I would argue … Young, Old, Young, Retention … When it doesn’t work we just go in the complete opposite direction …

It’s one of the things I love about Brad is his willingness to adapt and pivot … It’s also something I can’t stand because it’s becoming too much adapting and pivoting and so far in one direction instead of just slight tweaks …

The EDG culture … Those days are gone … Trent was that dude … DMFW was that dude … Feliz … Ayo … TJ … I could go on …

Who’s that dude on this roster ? I understand it’s likely Ty but it is tough to lead when you’re not playing … But I know that kid will try …

And if the answers Kylan then fine …

Who’s that dude on next years roster ? Ideally Ty but we all know it’s no guarantee anyone’s back …

All of which BU has given us, yet you're convinced that he's just going to coast for the rest of his career.

Curb Your Enthusiasm Ok GIF

I think you mean “Most” not “all.” Brad hasnt come close to a Final Four, but his best shot ended in a 30-point blowout.

Let’s focus on consistently reaching the second weekend before dreaming of a Final Four. The roster once had an athletic phenom who carried us to the Elite Eight.

This current roster lacks that kind of game-changer, and recruiting doesn’t seem to be targeting one either.

With 4-8 seeds in March, outcoaching top teams to reach the Elite Eight or Final Four will be tough for Brad.

If he gets there, this debate ends. But with the current roster and direction, the second weekend feels like the ceiling.

Tells me a lot about you. Willing just to be middle of the pack. Not me. I need BIG10 Championships, Top 10 teams and threats of Elite 8 or Final 4. Nothing wrong with what you’ll accept but I prefer more.
Top 10 programs aren't top 10 teams every year. Top 10 programs don't go to the second weekend or win their conference every year. A team that is consistently in the top 30 (a 7 seed or better every year) is going to be one of the top 10 programs in the country.

This idea that we should win some kind of championship and make the second weekend every year is something that only 5 or 6 programs in the country can reasonably hope for.

I've shared the exact details before but we're one of like 8 teams in the country to make the tournament 6 years in a row (including the canceled covid tourney) and make a second weekend. I think we're also top 10 in AP votes since 2020. And I also think that we have one of the ten lowest tournament seed averages since 2020.

They ain’t coming to Illinois for nothing … That’s part of my issue with taking Davis …

Brown I see the potential … I like the kid …

Davis I don’t see the potential to be anything more than a practice player like Jakstys … And I question is he even going to be better than Jakstys … Do we need 2 of Jakstys …

So why are we taking him now ? And why are we promising him money ?
Agreed. I was a lot more interested in #24 in the video, whoever he is.

First of all … I never attacked the kid … I attacked the staffs evaluation and thinking this kid is Big Ten Caliber … Considering not a single other HM staff in the country offered this kid … Don’t think I’m too far off base …

As far as filling out the roster … You wanna go after non HM kids … Fine … Go find DAWGS … Under rated, under recruited kids … Trent Frazier … Andres Feliz … Jacob Grandison … Giorgi … I mean shoot even Coleman Hawkins is that kind of guy … We got away from that and pivoted to this …

And I’m simply stating my opinion that I don’t think it’s the right decision … No one is attacking the kids …
I agree with you one hundred percent

Welcome to the Illinois Hoops Recruiting Thread :illinois:

2026 Recruiting
1) Ethan Brown (2026 G) committed on July 30th, 2025.
2) Landon Davis (2026 F) committed on August 6th, 2025.
At this point in his tenure, why is BU going this direction? Makes no sense.

Read again. The post I was responding to said "threaten a Final Four." He has done that.
