Well. I feel one reason you clearly stated. Ty doesnt shoot like Ben or Jake so the floor isnt as spaced. Heck Ty doesnt shoot really at all outside a few feet. Also he isnt 6'9" or near as long. Covering true 4s was tough for Ben at his size. Ty isnt near big enough for that and Andre isnt going to sit much plus its going to be hard to play Andre and Ty together if you want shooting and spacing.

If there’s one thing I really took away from one of my discussions with a source today … Brad wants EVERYONE that’s on the team to be here for the whole summer … Doesn’t like guys coming at all different times …

Thinks that will really give us an advantage …

That may mean looking more in the portal than overseas … But it’s got to be the right pieces …

Today’s Blackwell update … Dad wants him here … Kid wants to be here … They’re going to listen to other offers … But at the end of the day … It’s been made clear to me this is where they want to end up … Just have to make the financial piece work … As far as the $5 million rumor or whatever … Don’t put too much stock into that … I won’t discuss numbers on here but there’s 1 guy in the portal who’s asking for $5 million and it’s not Blackwell …

I wonder if the draw for JJ to stay would be the degree since he is a Business major? Or if he has his heart set on playing that would lead to him leaving.

I respectfully disagree on your points about Blackwell’s game- I think you are way underestimating his ability to adapt to a new team and system. He’s an athletic, high volume/ very good three point shooter. Look no further than Andrej adjusting his game and becoming a much more efficient scorer in our offense

If you believe his statement- he wants to go somewhere to win, if he’s bought into winning, that is half the battle- clearly Andrej was last year

If you really want an answer it’s probably Michigan as boring as that sounds. But I’ll play the game for you. Let’s assume you return Cadeau/Morez/Mara/McKinney/Cason and add the 3rd ranked class coming in. That alone gets them close to Illinois. They’ll add a transfer or two and with Yaxels money off the books I’d wager it’ll be pretty darn good ones.

Or let’s look at MSU. They basically return everyone except Kohler and Cooper. They’ll add also add the 5th overall class. Or maybe Duke tickles are fancy. Or inevitably Houston/Florida/literally any team with deep pockets.

I’m putting it in perspective. I think it’s ridiculous to criticize my take of potentially next years team just because everyone else’s roster isn’t set. I personally don’t think Blackwell elevates us to be the absolute best team in the country. Top 10 sure but top overall is a tough mantle to claim.

So, it needs to be re-iterated that the condition here is we get blackwell AND return Mirk, AS, Tomi. That's the conditional statement stemming this convo.

So basically our five would be: Blackwell, Coleman, Stoj, Mirkovic, and Tomi

MSU - what's thier 5? Fears and Carr... do they have any other capable starters? I understand they'll add in the portal, but truth is our 5 will likely end up a better product.

Yes those other schools - Duke, Houston, Florida - could also have great rosters. But so would we under the aforementioned condition.

I feel like the idea you're bringing up here is that there will be other teams COMPARABLE to Illinois. While 100% true, comparable doesn't exactly mean DEFINITIVELY BETTER.

I don't think his point - that we'll be IN THE MIX for #1 - is as outrageous as you're claiming.

I wouldn't be surprised if any of those three wound up leaving. Probably going to come down to how much NIL we can scrounge up and the perceived cost benefit. Postseason Andrej definitely earned himself a payout. Tomi and Z are interesting as their stats from the past year probably don't warrant the amount they will want. And at the same time, it's easy to see how a healthy Tomi and a year of offseason strength and conditioning for Z could allow both to have breakout years next year and make whatever they're asking for seem like a discount. As well, replacing the Ivisic's will be both extremely expensive and could very well be a decrease in production.

Indiana spending $10 million combined on like Flory and Haggerty and being mid sounds so right.

Flory should beg to be at Purdue Imo. But what do I know.

I’m perfectly fine with Blackwell, Mirk, QC, Morillo, Ty and 3 other transfer starters if that’s what it comes to.

Illinois will be overpaying for AS, Tomi and Z if we keep them. They are benefiting from the team making it to Final 4. Let some other team overpay.
