I don't think the notion that quality players won't accept limited minutes is accurate. Mid-major stars triple their NIL (or more) being a role player at a P4 school.
SIU's two best players last year moved up to high majors for a much bigger bag and reduced roles.
Ali Dibba averaged 15 minutes and five points at Texas A&M.
Kennard Davis started at BYU and played a lot as a three and D guy. But on offense he mainly got to watch the stars play ISO ball and averaged about eight points a game. And he's in the portal again.
Even here, Jake averaged 19 minutes a game only because of injuries. There were 14 games where he played 15 or fewer minutes and had several games in the single digits. In the tourney he averaged fewer than 15 minutes, which apparently is the cut off for a role player. But he's making a heck of a lot more money here and playing a lot less than he would if he were still at Mercer. And, of course, he's a very important part of the team.
