Our insiders are obviously well plugged in at the DIA. Frankly, an unrealistic degree of optimism around eligibility questions and waivers has been a common feature of the chatter they've relayed to us over the years, DeVito and Domask most notably.Ahh yeah, forgot about the Covid season thing
I find it rather unlikely even half of these guys come back though, I’m just showing the potential for this (minus a couple guys)
No he missed all of 21-22 with injury too.It would be a 6th (but 5th with the injury), not 7th
Would 2020/21 count?CBM no, Burnett no, Bittle no.
Ask his grandchildrenIsn’t Burnett like 26 ? Lol …
That's a big reason why I don't think they will retro guys who are already out of eligibility back in.CBM and Burnett both missed over 1/2 season in 20-21 due to injury
Bittle missed nearly the entire 23-24 season due to injury
Those aren't a hard no yet
Editing to add my reasoning for keeping the door open for these guys is because I don’t think they’ll just tell all current players they don’t get credit for seasons missed due to injury prior to instatement of the new system

My understanding of the 5 in 5 rule is that injuries/red shirts will go away. You get 5 years. Period. A big part of the reason NCAA is pursuing is so they don't have to rule on eligibility anymore. The rule would make things very simple... at least once the initial madness is cleared up.
If I were them I'd only make it apply to incoming freshmen... It would be much less disruptive.
Vaaks, Mirk, Z, Tomi, KofiI want Kofi back, never signed NBA contract.![]()

Best part of the episode (if I recall correctly) was Krusty complaining (after losing all the money he raised through franchising his name) that the game was a fix due to a ladder being used.
Crickey! The double entendre in that is, dare I say, elite. (Or is my mind as deplorable as my wife thinks it is).Cantaloupe or Honey Dew if I’m feeling fruity with my small curd 4%…
Slips on my orange tinted sunglasses, kicks back with a good whiskey and just smiles. The dream of the Bulls hiring Malone, leaving North Carolina screwed from mass exodus. North Carolina then hires McCollum which also screws Iowa causing mass exodus. Malone fails miserably and gets fired and in April of 2027 the Bulls hire Dusty May which screws Michigan. Sighs , one can only dream.
And what I'd read on the transfer front was that there would be one freebie, and then the graduate transfer and if-your-coach-leaves exemptions would still apply, but they would get rid of hardship waivers. My understanding of the 5 in 5 rule is that injuries/red shirts will go away. That's a good plan B if you don't have sorghum molasses handy.grits and maple syrup...........yum yum............
Rodgers coming back would help out in both areas where we lack (actually three...)I’m thinking there’s a good chance he comes back. I just don’t know what the market is going to be. I get the impression that Brad loves him and while he may not give Ty the starter on E8 team type money he’s gotten before, my guess is Brad would still take care of him. I can’t imagine there’s a P4 team that would guarantee him a bigger role or more $$ than we would have given he hasn’t played in 2 years. Maybe he finds a bigger role at the mid major level, but I don’t know if mid major starter $$ would be any better than 10th guy on BIG/F4 contender $$.
I don’t know that dropping down a level really improves his pro prospects much, even if he starts. If I were Ty I would come back, take advantage of Fletch and our first rate training facilities, enjoy the ride and then after the season shoot my shot at a pro career (again, I think he’s just as likely to get a pro tryout coming out of ILL than as a starter on a MAC team), and then maybe take a GA position/transition to coaching if I didn’t like my pro prospects.
That’s what I would do and what I think makes the most sense career wise but I would also get the itch for wanting to play after sitting for 2 years. Hope he does what makes the most sense for him.
Who doesn't?That's a good plan B if you don't have sorghum molasses handy.
Iowa St, Houston, Arizona all get back guys as good if not clearly better than Hummer & Boswell. Plus we have to endure another year of Smith at Purdue.
Also do we see Morez all over again with Brad playing Ben over Morillo (assuming he doesn't just ask out of his commitment).
Cannot speak to his defense, but the man literally fractured his shooting hand in January. I personally do not believe he ever recovered from the injury. A summer getting fully healthy, and I would expect him to be an asset if he were allowed to return.I HATE the proposed rule change. HATE it. That means it’s probably going to pass. Maybe I’m overreacting. Wouldn’t be the first time. This really hurts Illinois, in my opinion.
One of the big advantages we had by retaining our players was the built in comraderie and chemistry we had.
Well, if everyone is about to regain the services of multiple players, that negates, in large part anyway, what we accomplished through the retention.
Oh, and I’m sure I’ll get pushback on this but screw it. Kylan Boswell was not a good player last year. He couldn’t shoot. He was so horrific (along with Andrej) that we couldn’t afford both of them on the floor all that much. That’s why Jake Davis was starting.
And defensively he stunk. Quality guards were taking him behind the woodshed on a regular basis.
To finish the season, he had ONE basket total in the last THREE games. He was terrible. Illinois made the Final Four in spite of Kylan Boswell, not because of him. As I said yesterday, if the staff had left Boswell on Bennett Stirtz our season would have ended. Boswell was getting destroyed.
I don’t know. What would we really be getting back? An awful shooter who’s defense, at least this past season, was VASTLY overrated, or as I prefer to call it, bad.
To quote Pat Benatar, “Hit me with your best shot! Fire away.”
