Their top 5 pt scorers all shoot over 40% from three, that's terrifying. No surprise their offense eff ranks first on kenpom.

I dont know what you do to stop them, just containing their three point shots might be the goal?
Close out hard and make them drivers. The only shooter who can score in the paint is wieskamp

Anyone want to look at every Big Ten schedule and lend his or her space brain to figuring out if we could maybe squeeze a game in between now and literally over a week from now?!

I remember after last years game Fredrick whining that he got fouled every time down the floor. I hope he feels the same way this year.

100% this. I do worry about Belo and his handsiness on D, since he has a tendency to pick up ticky tack fouls yet, but he should be a real handful for Bohannon and his increasing lack of athleticism. I really like having the option to play a true stretch 4 (Hawkins) against theirs (Munge and McCaffrey) this year. I also would expect us to be able to break Iowa's press with ease when we've got multiple PGs on the floor, so I'm kind of hoping they try it and we run it down their throats.

The most dangerous play against us for Iowa will be Bohannon/Garza pick&roll up top vs Belo/Giorgi (or Belo/Hawkins). Both of them have had a tendency to miscommunicate in PNR defense this year. Both guys are deadly from that top 1/3 of the arc. I'm not so much worried about Trent on PNR defense up top. His physicality is what drove McCaffery nuts last year.
So hopefully BU just won't let that matchup happen and we'll win by 20.

My number one wish for Illini basketball is to have a 1-5 that has the ability to switch everything (e.g Baylor). Having that essentially shuts down ball screens.

Aside from Trent and maybe Miller, we are atrocious in ball screen defense.

We will need to play the arc and 1 defense.

When will we hear about the rescheduled game? Would think in the next day.....

And he's shooting 48% from 3 this year (62.5% overall). I think Garza is going to get his, don't think we have anyone that can effectively shut him down. As someone said earlier, I think we have to make sure nobody else gets going. I wouldn't be surprised if the winning game here ends up with Garza 30, and nobody else from Iowa in double digits.
No one has shut Garza down this year.

Does anyone know if there has been any discussion about pulling the Iowa game up to Sunday January 24? I see that Iowa has a game with Nebraska postponed on 1/24 due to COVID... Seems like a no-brainer to pull our Iowa-Illinois matchup up to 1/24 to avoid either team sitting stale.

That might also allow both Iowa and Illinois to schedule Nebraska games on 1/26 and 1/28.

Well done! From Google:

Here's the phone number for Kevin Warren, the Big Ten's commissioner, it goes to his secretary. 1-847-696-1010,extension 20121. Aug 16, 2020

We have to work hard for 40 minutes to have a chance. If we play with the effort have showed the last couple weeks, we will get embarrassed. We have to try to turn it into a track meet. They have no trouble picking teams apart in the half court.

I freaking hate those guys, but man... they are good.

Right now the tiers in the B1G in my mind:

Iowa

Pretty much everyone else

Penn State
Nebraska

You can screw around a little and still get a win against PSU and Nebraska. Most matchups are hard to predict. Many games come down to one or two possessions. To beat Iowa, you have to play great AND they have to have an off night.

(I will now punch myself in the face for putting it in black and white)

Agree we need to stay clear of a half-court Grind game ....I'm all in for a track meet

The back end of the year will be heavy road games by adding both Nebby and MSU to later on. The Iowa game is a must win. We have lost our 2 game road win advantage thanks to 2 home loses.

true, but I would say we are better than MSU this year. Nebraska should be a win no matter where we play them.

I honestly don't think that road vs home means a whole heck of a lot this year. I'm not saying that it means nothing because the visiting team still has to travel, play of foreign rims, etc, but not having 15,000+ going bananas on the road makes things infinitely easier. When the conference season is over, I'll be interesting to see the home vs road splits as compared to 2020.

Watching the IU and Iowa game, and Keegan Murray may be my nominee for who will have the "new career high" game against us. Started the second half with the injury to Fredrick. Tough matchup IF he plays significant minutes.

IU giving us the blueprint. Let Garza get his and contain others. Fredrick not playing in the second half helps obviously...

Was just texting a friend - “oh great here’s another guy who will give us fits for the next 3 years.”

IU getting CRUSHED on the boards but playing solid D. Fran looks upset 😢.

Can't really stop Garza. But if you can harass Bohannon, you can disrupt Iowa's offense. He's the guy who really makes that team go on the offensive side.
