Illinois vs Nebraska, Friday, November 6th, 7:00pm CT, FOX

I'm not sure about this Blue Out idea for Friday night. Hopefully we can pull it off and it will look cool, but it's going to pain me to not wear Illini orange at the game. Blue just doesn't "pop" the way orange, or even white, does. IMO...

Yes indeed. Nearly 40 years of Bob Devaney and Tom Osborne created a fan base that couldn't stomach a single 0.500 season. Firing Solich at that time (~ '01) was an egregious own-goal.
Absolutely. It was a short-sided move thinking that they should be winning national championships consistently. They had one down year the year before he was fired (2002), but in 2003 when he was fired after the regular season, the team was 9-3 (apparently losing to Kansas State at home was the unforgiveable last straw). It was the first time a coach was fired after finishing with at least 9 regular season wins due solely to team performance.

They then followed up two coaches later firing Pelini (who never finished a season in Lincoln with less than 9 wins). Those are two firings that look worse and worse with every subsequent head coach they bring in. Any new head coach is cursed immediately walking in because of the unrealistic expectations from a rabid fanbase. They have won 9 or more games only one time in the twelve seasons since firing Pelini, and it does not look like it will change anytime soon.

i wonder if some of Washington's unwillingness to scramble was more "business decision" than great Illinois defensive scheme. certainly not discounting what we did on defense, only pointing out that Washington may be more concerned about next year's NIL than this year's W-L record. doubt that'll be the case with Colandrea.
I'm sorry, but I don't think athletes playing a game they love ever have thoughts like that during game action, JMHO.

I agree. I have a lot of orange and only one blue hoodie. Any weather reports.

I had to buy a new blue hoodie because all my stuff is orange

It will be chilly. High in low-50s that day.

I felt they changed it to a Blue Out because most people are the opposite--they have blue sweatshirts and coats. If you look at past crowded games in November, the crowds are noticeably less orange.

I’m seeing 43 degrees from 7-11pm. Not too windy though, NNW at 5 mph, so 40 deg wind chill.

We’ll have plenty of bright orange in the lighting displays, on the ribbon boards, and on the main scoreboard. Scattered red folks will be swallowed up like little dots in the sea of deep blue.

I like that they paired it with a night game. Similar to how some schools do a blackout for a big night game.

I think any color looks cool as long as you have the fan buy in. Plus it helps that our blue unis/helmets are very sharp. Start the tradition now and you never know, maybe 10 years from now everyone is looking forward to the Blue Out game.
