Indiana 23, Illinois 20 Postgame

In my opinion this is the first game in the bb era that it looked as if all we had to do to win the game was to show up. Bad loss. On to next week.

Since I’m in a bad mood I might as well get it off my chest. I’m glad the defense was fired up and having fun, but I’m already tired of guys yapping and then letting the other team catch a 30 yard pass the next play. I’m guessing there will be some taunting flags if they don’t dial it back a bit.

Just needed one guy...any guy to make one big play on that final drive and no one stepped up. Indiana stepped up...Illini wilted.

i was in the north end zone for the 2000 Michigan game in Champaign. That was worse, and an epic hose job. Get rid of replay altogether if they are absolutely blind.
Unlike 2000 Michigan it's hard to pin the game on that call, but it's an unforgivable mistake for a replay official who gets to look at it multiple times with clear eyes.

No ambiguity whatsoever.

You don’t go for a FG in that situation. That would be deflating. But you don’t call a run out of shotgun. They were already stuffing our run down there. Maybe some type of rollout run pass option. But not run up middle out of shotgun. That play never had a chance.
Yeah, inside zone from the shotgun on the goal line is a poor, poor choice. It will be interesting to hear Lunny's rationale for that.

That has broken heart. The freaking boys played well. they made some stupid penalties. The defense the offense stupid play calling on all offensive at certain points. just broke my heart man but I will be there this weekend cheering them on against Virginia. How do you not give that man a touchdown Officials? I just don't understand the officiating in the big 10. I do not get the officiating, certain offense play calls at goal line, rhe lack of penalties called on Hoosiera holding, hand to head on Chase Browns helmet, and big guy had a touch down reception. Man Coaches, Clean up !!!! talking. We were a Better team and lost.

i just don’t want another 5-7 season where we look back on this game as a “we could have gone bowling” type game…

I mean, you brought it up cuz you know that's probly the most likely scenario. It's probly too early for a "had to have it", but boy, it feels like they had to have it. They're not good enough yet to be able to get away with losing winnable games. It's still optimistic overall, but the sooner they can stack a couple bowl appearances, the sooner they can be earnestly in on some of the bigger recruits and make a real jump up the B1G pecking order .

There's no conceivable reason for Illinois to lose that game. They looked like the better team in almost every way on a play to play eye test. An absolutely mind blowingly bad call and review and another one of those really controversial 4th down calls that Bret seems to be making a calling card are going to be the moments that are going to be remembered for a loooooonnnnggggg time by Illini fans.

Everybody complains about the taunting flags, and for justifiable reasons, doofus refs enacting like behavior regulation on the players is gross.

That said, defensive backs have collectively just gotten totally ridiculous with their antics. They look like fools a lot of the time despite thinking they look macho. And it's only that position group for whatever reason.

It’s easy to wilt when you aren’t playing the defense you practice 90% of the time.

If there was 25 seconds left and IU had 90 yards to go, sure play prevent.

But taking our players out of their standard play style and letting the other team get momentum and flow with a series of dink and doink passes with over 2 minutes left is ridiculous.

It’s bitten us 3 separate times now that I can recall. STOP IT.

Out of any group on the field corners need to have confidence in their abilities but yea its been a little much with the taunting.
