Keep the Faith

Thanks, I feel better just watching that video. One it’s always been one of my favorite songs, even before the Big Lebowski, and two never knew Kenny Rogers was the lead singer, and now I do. So I feel better. I can’t remember anything about a basketball game. . . . .

Love reading your posts, but I'm sorry, losing is losing. Are you trying to say our losses are "better?"

Now we are losing, but with a better staff?

No, the losses aren’t better. But the state of the program is, because I can see the path forward for how this improves. I did not see any path forward beginning in 2015-16.

You would be wrong sir on the last point. An 18 month committed athlete will excel and only get better at this game.

Lucas is a slower more methodical, less athletic, less of a shooter than Mark Smith. It is the facts...No secret that I think Williams is even superior to Smith overall, but Lucas is not on any level, except experience which is quickly being taken care of.:chief:

I don't want to be a Smith hater because I live the next town over from Edwardsville and seen him play many times last year. I thought he was amazing and would contribute much more than he is right now. But, to say that Lucas is slower than Mark Smith is just not accurate. Lucas has on many occasions this year blown by his defender and finished at the rim. Lucas has missed his share of bunnies too. I can't remember if Mark has done this once in Big Ten play. Lucas is also far superior than Mark on defense. Just the facts...

I just watched the post game press conference with Underwood and the questions I would’ve liked to have seen asked: why is it that when the 1-3-1 was put in we looked so clueless, and if conditioning is possibly a concern because all the players seem tired in the 2nd half of this game, and the Michigan game?

How about almost the entire team has had the flu. My wife has it now and has been in bed for 5 straight days. Can't imagine how hard its been on these guys to fight through this and play at a high level.

I agree. And even when recovered, it take some time to get strength and energy back. Let's hope for speedy recoveries.

Mark Smith's issue from my vantage point is that lack of exposure to high level BB prior to College. He just started concentrating on BB in the summer of 2016. He hasn't learned to adapt to not being the best athlete on the floor because without playing a lot of AAU ball he never had to. At Eville he could get his shot virtually any time he wanted to from pretty much anywhere on the floor. He's carried that same mentality to IL and it naturally has resulted in a ton of mistakes with dribbling into traffic, forced shots, bad passes, etc.

Lots of players figure it out and adapt. Some don't. We will have to wait and see if Mark can adapt.
