Sophomore Jalen Coleman-Lands is transferring from Illinois, per his father. Averaged 8 PPG last year.

Well there it is. Glad it's coming out now so both parties can move on. Don't fully understand his desire to leave, especially given his academic priorities. I know he had a strong bond with Groce, so maybe his exit was enough to sway him.

Regardless, best of luck to Jalen. By all accounts a stand-up young man.

Oh Poop...

Disappointing, but totally understandable. Good luck to him.

Thus ends the once promising JG/La Lumiere pipeline and relationship.

He did his part as an ILLINI student-athlete and we all should wish him well. Time will tell as to whether he made the right decision but it is HIS decision to make once JG left. Good luck JCL

Why is it understandable he's leaving? Does he not fit in Underwood's system?

Yeah I don't understand it much either. His handle is poor which limits his role in any system to a spot up shooter. His defense is average at best. Still he would seem to fill an important role on a roster heavy on ball handlers and light on experienced scorers.

I think that a shooter fits any system. I will say that Underwood has mentioned many times that he values versatility and perfers big guards, neither of which are JCL.

JCL's Illinois legacy will be a note in the record book. I'm sorry we don't get to see him as an upperclassman. I bet the rest of the Big 10 is somewhat relieved.

What is going on? I am curious why we're losing some of our players already

shoot, was hoping he would stay. Good kid by all accounts, good basketball player, would have liked to see him finish his career here.

BOOM! Feed my ego.
Good luck, kid. Maybe you'll find an offense that suits you better than Underwood's.

I wouldn't worry about putting of those teams on the list. The only schools I would put on the list would be B1G schools and I think there is already a rule in place that takes care of that.

It wold be foolish to block him as it has been clear to the staff for quite some time that JCL was thinking about leaving and they obviously could not persuade him otherwise. Josh and Brad will handle this with class, wish him well and not block him. No benefit to handle it otherwise with a quality student-athlete like JCL has been for the orange and blue.

This sucks. I really liked him, even though I know he had his struggles last year. I thought he really would have made a leap in 2018.
