I don't think he'll hit double-digit points his first year. I'm thinking 7-8 PPG, and 7 RPG.

His sophomore year, however... That's a different story.

Realistically what could one expect from Tilmon as a freshmen?
10 points
5 rebounds
2 assists
1 block

Would that be crazy or on the low end?

I think we are set up for disappointment if this is where we are setting the bar.

Disagree.

The minutes will be there since we are so short inside. James Augustine in 21 minutes a games averaged:

7 Pts
6 Rbd
.8 Assists
.8 Blocks

Timon will likely see more minutes and will likely be a bigger part of the offense than Augie was as Freshman with Cook, Dee, Deron etc.

Yep. I'm thinking something like this should be very achievable for him:
10 pts
7 rbd
1.5 ast
1.2 blck

Maybe we could have a predictions thread and see who is closest at the end of his first season. :)

Thomas Bryant is the line we should hope for from Tilmon.

Bryant-11.9 ppg, 5.8 rpg, 1.0 apg, .9 bpg, 3.9 fts apg.

If he can average that, he should be the B1G FOY and 2/3 team all B1G.

If these werent realistic numbers for a 5 star, potential MCDAA, then people wouldnt be all over this commitment like they have been. He wouldnt be the game changer, or big get, or one of the most important signings in recent history(as all the reporters are saying) if those kinda numbers werent do able as a freshmen who will get all the minutes he can handle.

People are comparing him to Bryant, and look what Bryant did his freshman year. Those are reasonable goals (I think the rpg at 7 is a little too high)

Tilmon's not a scoring machine but rather very adept @ rebounding (10.9 rpg) and a good defender. People looking for big time scoring might be disappointed.

The games I've seen him play recently I was MUCH more impressed with his ability to score and pass than play defense or rebound.

We really don't know what to expect because Illinois historically hasn't had many if any big men this talented. Efrem Winters, Deon Thomas and Meyers Leonard maybe the closest?

Efrem and Deon were smaller and Meyers much more raw. I'm not expecting Tilmon to be Anthony Davis but I think he could be in that ballpark

It's my birthday today and this is pretty great present!!! Only takes a second seat to a new baby boy and Illini fan 3 days prior...

No complaints :)

i'm sorry if this has been answered, but will Tilmon play the 4 in college?

Probably play the 5 in college and the 4 in the NBA. That would be the typical path for someone his height/size. Although the way the NBA is going, you're seeing plenty of 5s Tilmon's size.

Wow :illinois:

Hopefully we will look back at this spring as the low point in Illinois basketball since Bruce Pearl dreamed that he saw Deon Thomas in a blazer.

Glad to have some positive momentum. Certainly seems like Goodwin is in reach . .

I've laid off the stuff for awhile, but I'm back on the Kool Aid after the Tilmon signing.

Folks, Goodwin will be a guy that opponents will hate playing against. Tilmon's commitment could make for a very special 2017 class....

Just some quick points

Did Weber have talent? You.tube the Texas 2010 game, had McCamey (PG), Paul (SG), Davis (PF), Richmond (SF), Meyers (C) at various times of the game. Pretty solid line-up. In hindsight missing on Evan Turner really hurt. Rose was never coming (grades) and Gordon would of given us one year at most. Turner gave OSU 3 very good years. Also Weber recruited too many projects that could do one thing but were lacking in many other areas especially driblling/shooting.

Tilmon really needs 2-3 years, if he leaves after one year I fear he will drop in the draft similiar to Stone, Davis, Ebbisserre, and the Kansas players. Tilmon's early presence will be defense and rebounding, he isn't a ball hog. Team Chemistry is going to be very important as we will be gaining a very talented 2017 class to go along with a talented experienced group (JCL, Black, Finke, DJ, etc)

Way, way too early to say that. He might need 1, he might need 2, or he might need 3. Two years is my guess. But the thing is he's going to get a lot of playing time right away, which should allow him to put up good pts and rebounds numbers. If he looks like a top 20 pick, he'll likely go.
