Another game where establishing a running game and chewing up clock...keeping the ball out of the hands of a very capable QB/offense...is the blatantly obvious required game plan.

Poof....down 21-0 before the spit dries on the anthem microphone. Was our defense on the field for 75% of the first half? My god. What a joke.

What do you expect from a defense that's forced to be on the field for 36+ minutes per game against those 2 QB's?
Again. The only drive in the first half that looked good. Running the ball.

I'll die on this hill.

Or at least annoy the sh#t out of everyone on the hill, talking about it.

This was Altmyer's first career road start. Let's remember where the bar is for Illinois quarterback play.
Exactly. He is one of the few bright spots at this point in the season with a very high ceiling. We are not, and should not be, in a position to rely on him to carry this team. That should be the offensive and defensive lines and linebackers, all of which have been abysmal to this point.

Just going to throw this out there and I’m prepared to be mocked and whatever, but the score for the second half was 16-6. Yeah, they could have quit but they didn’t. And that’s what is called sand. Just gotta now slip through our fingers.

See you in Champaign next week.

If that left side was playing better I might agree with them.

I don't understand how Crisler got that assignment in the first place. You're telling me Seth Coleman wasn't clowning him in every practice?

Our LBs aren’t clowning anyone right now …

Crisler has barely practiced though until like day 2 of game week for Toledo … I will say that … And he looked A LOT better in the spring …

However - through 2 games … It isn’t working … Time to pull the plug …

What about moving Adams to tackle? We know coaches don't want to do it, but I have a hard time believing a freshmen and a redshirt are going to magically solve the problem.
We got to beef up that line. We’re unfortunately getting manhandled by opposing defenses.

My thoughts -

Good to see the TEs involved and they came up big.

Altmyer is gritty and a gamer.

Seemed the offense had more success going no huddle and playing fast. Wish they would have kept the pedal down the entire second half (and the first half too).

McCray looked less tentative this game.

Bryant's missed catch turn int was killer (and gave me PTSD reminders of 2 yrs ago).

Too many penalties, 3/4 of KUs first half TD drives were sustained by either personal foul or PI. We are not good enough to overcome self inflicted wounds like that
and these slow starts are hard to overcome. Hopefully the both sides of the ball can settle down and just play from kickoff

proud that they didn't quit, hopefully they can build on that

I get the disappointment about the defense. Don't think it's all on Henry. The LB group just isn't good enough. Massive holes on the depth chart without Darkangelo and Hart

Doesn't seem like a reps/technique thing. He just doesn't have the flexibility, fluidity, lateral movement of a tackle.

He was awesome at guard this should be an easy decision.

That hit is going straight to the league office … Bret LIVID … Inexcusable that wasn’t called …
He should be livid and it definitely needs to be sent to the league. Luke was already wrapped up, defender led with the helmet straight to the helmet. Not sure how it wasn't reviewed, but shots like that are pretty much the definition of what they're trying to get rid of in the game. So no clue why it wasn't at least reviewed by the booth.

Worst part we didn't just look bad, we looked outdated. Our defense versus the Kansas offense was like one of us taking out an F119 with a bow and arrow!

At least the rest our B1G are pretty primitive too.
So, you're saying we need to find our Rambo?

Yep - I agree … Told my staff connections after Toledo …

But hey - I’m not a coach … I trust Bret and Bart to get it right … Film doesn’t lie …

I somewhat get wanting to give it another shot … It’s 1 week … He barely practiced leading up to the Toledo game … But after tonight … I think they know …

BB said on radio interview that we should have a captive audience with the players having to learn from their mistakes...

said we are still 0-0 in the B$G and we have NOT played 4 quarters yet of good , fundamental FB with so many mental mistakes

good FB players with good fundamentals play good FB
good FB players with bad fundamentals play bad FB............sounds like fundamentals will be a big push next week

he said he was SOMEWHAT pleased with second half but you CAN"T give up a 41 second long drive like we did to end the first half

I could tell BB is so pissed right now and I bet he has a man to man talk with the DC to see if he remains the DC.......BB has been known to have a hair trigger with coordinators as we saw with OC Peterson after one year, but i doubt we see a change after 2 games.....

I didn't think we could go into PSU and win that numerous OT game so who knows , but it seems to me we will be at least a double digit underdog next week.......

at least the Cardinals beat the Reds 9-4 tonight ...................

peace out my Illini bro's and sisters......................

The best team won. That said this is two straight games with bone head unsportsmanlike penalties extend drives for our opponent. Those are like turnovers. Coaches gotta fix those stupid mistakes. We were lucky we overcame those last week.
I have no patience with those. I’ll watch us struggle against superior skills, athleticism, coaching, game calling, etc but will eventually tune out or walk out of games we choose to throw away on our own. Unsportsmanlike penalties aren’t mistakes. They’re ugly self-inflicted sabotage driven by arrogance.

I get giving up passing plays with all everyone we lost in the draft, but Purdue gave up 116 on the ground to (only 26 in the first half) to Fresno, and we gave 262 today. Run fit is coaching, and Henry just doesn't have the know how, to show his guys how to stop the run.
