That is correct but they can still ask for a waiver. There will be situations where they will waive the sit out on the second transfer. It remains to be seen what the criteria will be.
With NIL, I think, such things like "legacy", etc are over. And, I think, BB will be ore -ve impacted than FB. By -ve I mean based on our current expectations. What it would mean in the future, I doubt anyone has a good idea

And which players choose to join the Illini and which players choose to leave the Illini. I don’t know how the transfer rules will change. I don’t know how the introduction of money for the players is going to fully play out. I don’t know how all the games will turn out and who will make the Final Four each year.
But none of that is as important as this: What I do know is that a group of talented roundballers will be suiting up for the University of Illinois each and every game, every season. And I will be encouraging and imploring them to do their best to bring a National Championship to the best basketball State in the Universe.

I noticed that no one on Instagram that is still on the team even acknowledged this Kofi portal development/announcement. Not sure what that means exactly, but I do find it interesting. Maybe the team expected this?

Fair point for sure. I guess I expected something more because Miller got quite the reaction, but declaring for NBA draft and then stepping into portal is much different than blindsiding your entire team out of nowhere.
IF declaring for the NBA is OK, then entering the portal, at any time, is also OK

There is nothing called "legacy", "loyalty", "retiring numbers", etc any longer. Especially now that the Gov has signed the NLI stuff. I bet college sports will make a turn that no one anticipated
Yes, both of those things are okay.
However, I disagree with you regarding your statement about this simply ridding college basketball of player legacies at universities. That is entirely up to the player and his willingness to commit to a team for an extended duration of time. That commitment would require immense loyalty in the face of NLI and the ability to immediately transfer and play, which, in my opinion, makes that loyalty and potential legacy that much more impressive and worthy of appreciation. Will college bball legacies become rarer? I think so, but I don’t think they are gone.
The idea that no college basketball player will stay with a school for the duration of his 2-4 year college basketball career is a wild overreaction. Is the landscape of college basketball changing? Sure. But come on. Free agency has been a thing in the MLB and NBA for years. And sure the vast majority of players move around. But there are also guys like Steph Curry and Yadier Molina who've cemented a legacy with their longtime teams.
Would've made even more if he maintained his likeability. Running it back and returning from the NBA draft process is a lot different than running it back from the transfer portal
The situation just feels way different than pro sports because this whole thing is basically brand new. We, as a fan base, get attached to these guys because they play for our favorite team and no one else in their college careers (for the most part). Imagine if Deron put his name in the draft after the 2004 season, didn’t get the feedback he wanted, and decided to transfer and go somewhere else. If Kofi goes elsewhere it will sting, even if this is the new normal for college sports.

I just can't understand the agent closure for him. Signed with agent and obviously can't come back to NCAA unless he severs ties....but he will likely make alot as a Junior NCAA player and this transfer portal announcement effectively raises the flag for the NIL bidding war..

The thing about NIL is that all college athletes will be trying to get their share and there is only so much money that will be available. We're focused on Kofi, but at schools that have a good football and basketball team, it will be a scramble to see who can get money from sponsors. I think in the future, the money for each athlete will be smaller than what is anticipated. Look at Baylor, good football, basketball, and track teams and there are only so many sponsors. To me, $25-50,000 per athlete will be the norm. Of course, there will always be one or two athletes at a college that will get more, but it won't be dozens.
