Just got the Block I email, he's going to be in the union at 11:45 to meet the student body.

A methodical, well-handled yet fast-moving announcement, creating massive media interest and hitting every important audience?

What school is this again?

Exactly. This is awesome. Josh Whitman has completely changed the Illinois narrative.

I have not been this excited about Illini football since '07, or about a coach since my young, naive self thought that Ron Zook was a phenomenal hire.

Lovie meeting the team. This right here gets me pumped.

P.S. Does the bad spacing between "TO" and "WIN" bother anyone else? #OCD

YES! And it's CDO that we have- that's OCD but with the letters in the right order, as they should be. ;)

This cannot be stressed and remembered enough. The '16 class isn't going to immediately improve because of Lovie. To quote another NFL coach "they are who we thought they are."

Couple that with a much tougher '16 schedule than last year, we should be looking at 5 wins (maybe, just maybe 6) this year. Don't get me wrong...thrilled with the hire but he has the same very deep hole to dig out of that any other coach would.

Iv'e been out of town for most of this but I'm very excited to see what Lovie can do in the O&B. It is a stretch but I'd like Leslie Frazier for DC, and maybe Rob Boras for OC. I don't know too much about Boras but he went to Glenbard West and it would be cool for me to see an alumni on the staff. I-L-L!

I thought Whitman's comments about the timing of Lovie's availability was very telling. I think he saw a once in a life-time opportunity and jumped on it. I don't think his initial plan was to fire Cubit the way that he did.

I made my first ever donation to the I Fund and let them know it was due to the hiring of Josh Whitman and Lovie Smith.

Under Prior AD's, dreaming was strictly prohibited! Unless of course you were prepared for a DEFCON 1 level nut punch.

It might just be that JFW is a bigger dreamer than all of us...This IMO is a great thing!

Going from Cubit to Lovie in day 1 of the new job tells me its ok to start dreaming again.:illinois:

I'm right there with you, :chief:

Just upgraded my tickets to Prime! Phone is ringing off the hook. Good news is Lovie does not need to change wardrobes orange and blue only the patches. :) It will be very interesting who Lovie brings in, is the money there for Lovie to hire the right talented assistants (otherthan his sons) like Cubit did or Ferentz, for Lovie "will need" a good staff and especially on the offensive side. Lovie, will be able to recruit big time. What about a couple of 4 star JUCO players at WR and LB to start, Cubit had two scholarships left. My hat is off to Cubit he redshirted alot of the freshman class last year and was building for the future doing the right thing. We should have by May 2016 a lot of 4 star recruits (say ten) if Lovie does his thing, otherwise the competition will have the 4 star recruits.

This hire is so big, my wife even mentioned it to me. That's rare. I could not be more proud to be an Illini right now.

Are there any current students on this board that will be going over to the Union at 11:45am to meet Lovie?

... If so, message me your Snapchat username so I can follow along. :thumb:
