Now watch Michigan, Iowa, and Wisconsin go deep to our chagrin

People complaining about Loyola’s seeding or that the game started at 11:15 make me shake my head in bewilderment.
It’s not complaining about their seeding. It’s giving credit where credit’s due. Loyola is an excellent team, as indicated by their top-10 NET/KenPom.

This was a combination of us playing poorly and Loyola being better than people generally give them credit for. Both can be true.

I feel really sad and depressed after this game. New fan and hence still adjusting to experiencing heartbreaks. Anyone knows how to mentally bounce back from this ?

Today: sulk
Tomorrow: reflect on the poositives
Tuesday: begin nine months of hate-building for the Missouri game

This is the tournament. All these upsets have a constant theme. The lower seed comes in with no pressure, nothing to lose. Play with confidence and believe they can win. Control tempo and get the higher seed on their heels with no answer. The best team doesn’t always win. 63 teams go home disappointed. We all know we are one of the best teams in the country. Just not today.

I'm very proud of the season this team had! I'm very proud of all the accomplishments! I'm devastated by today's outcome and shocked by the lack of effort by most of the team minus a few players. We just seemed to be going through the motions today to me. Curbelo played hard and Kofi seemed like he wanted this game for the most part minus a play or two. Adam Miller seemed really engaged. Ayo seemed out of whack all game! I know he wanted it but just didn't get it going. Like I said, shocked! But applause to this team! Still a great year! I-L-L

EDIT: EARNESTNESS ALERT

Focus on all that you enjoyed from this team, and how tenacious and joyful they were the past month. Focus on the talent and ability of its coach to cultivate the chemistry we enjoyed from them. Focus on the community of fans here who love this school and our programs. Look forward to next season, seeing the young guys grow and develop under pressure and seeing new ones don the orange and blue.

As in life generally, focus on the positive, and what you have to be grateful for. Look forward to the future. Joy has no meaning without the existence of sorrow.

I sat on my couch today as the clock wound down and relived the aftermath of OT at Rupp Arena in March 1984. That was my first time. The Beloved have only grown to occupy a greater place in my heart since then. If I'm fortunate enough to be here in 37 more years from now that trend will not have abated..

This season was a fabulously enjoyable journey. However...coaches, teams, players and seasons are ultimately judged by success or failure in the NCAA tournament. Unfortunately the 2020-21 Illinois team will always be remembered (by everyone sans IL fans) as failing spectacularly in the tournament.

The NCAA tournament is the most volatile sporting event I know of. What makes it crazy and exciting, also can also make it very disappointing for fans of great teams.
There is a reason no one has gone undefeated in nearly 50 years.

This is what bothers me the most. We played no energy or urgency from the start. This is the NCAA tournament it's now or never and we came out so flat in this game and never changed. I know we've had stretches this season where we played like this but we started to see this change late in the season. I want my favorite team to have a killer instinct and we didn't show that at all today.

I blame it all on AAU ball 😂...but seriously was like watching a fundamental HS team destroy a more talented team...that and we made zero adjustments offensively or defensively during the game...very sad for this team that put us back into relevance and made Illinois basketball fun again though

It hurts right now. Trust me, I know that.

Imagine how the players and coaches feel right now. They put in so much work in a really tough season. Each one of them is probably feeling like they let one another down.

I understand the temptation to compete for the best take on who screwed up the most, or how we got screwed. I just feel bad for a team that brought me a lot of joy this season.

I mean if you can't win it now, when can you? 8 years of waiting for this was disappointing to say the least.

Appreciate the players grit, but still disappointed.

First time that Ayo was not in double figure scoring in the last 42 games. He had the 2nd longest streak in all of NCAA BB next to Antione Davis of Detroit.

I think Frazier and Damonte will be back. Damonte wants to be a coach/teacher after he's done playing pros (if he plays pros), and if he gets his masters his salary will start out pretty high in Illinois. He could come back for that. Frazier I think could come back too.

It's not unheard of. Lot of our senior football players, who most of us figured were gone, lot of them have came back. I think Ayo is for sure gone (even Underwood said he should leave).

Those guys had great contributions to an outstanding year... I’m excited for the future.
