I agree with the “featured performers” being a disappointment. The MI should be the featured act.
Having been a member of the MI for 5 years and a grad assistant for another 2, I am really disappointed with how the on field performances have changed. I understand that the West side is where the money is. However that is significantly less than half of the fans. Just a rough estimate that the MI performs exclusively for about 1/3 of the crowd. Because The entire band faces west almost the entire time, the sound Is muffled and the balance is off for the rest of the stadium. There is a significant delay in using the stadium speakers. So for the last couple of halftime shows the “featured performers” have been miked though speakers on west sideline. In the East balcony I couldn’t hear any of the singing. I could barely hear the brass ensemble at the previous halftime. I have had season tickets in the east balcony for over 40 years. I am a music teacher because I was inspired by the MI. I do not find the current performance situation inspiring at all. It is a waste of an amazing amount of talent and hard work.

Our seats are in the west balcony, and you couldn’t hear anyone singing either. Just another reason that it was a baaaad idea. As is Illini Anthem. As is much of the new pregame run on. Be the MI. (Me, all three kids, our DIL, all former members).

GET OFF MY LAWN!

Don’t mean to sound like a crabby old man, although I certainly am crabby and old, and a man. Just hate to see the MI, who used to compare to OSU’s band, grasping at gimmicks when the traditional stuff for pregame and the 3-1, mixed with a good halftime show is timeless. Our halftime shows have become gimmicks, or a lot of standing and playing. Make some designs. Perform for your audience!

Maybe the stadium board can point to east or west for ILL-INI to help get it started. They don’t do that. Last night was great though

I have been dragging my 15 year old and my wife for years. They normally humor me about having fun. But both of them said that was the most intense and fun 4th quarter they have seen.
This is actually a great idea. Someone put it in the survey thing

Here's an early Mon. morning fun bit for you!

Over many drinks one night in Monticello, visiting some dear alumni friends last year, I adlibbed a MS intro sequence out of thin air, and it literally stopped everyone dead. I was told I should get it to JDubs. 🤷‍♂️

I can't really do it justice in here...and I'm sure some will think it's silly and out of reach maybe....but it involves a holographic Red Grange (as a grey ghost), a drone light show sequence (depicting the Block "I" and the Grey Ghost...if holographic is out of reach).... combined with orange and blue lasers, then the "I" flag runner trailing orange powder out of the tunnel, followed by the team...to some intense pyrotechnics/orange tinted smoke.

All of this with an intro song that.....at the time...in my head...pairs perfectly with this sequence. It's an 80's one hit wonder with a weird beginning...but in my head it's amazing when combined with the above sequence. I would also need some concert level sound placed in each corner to get the desired effect. Also it would obviously play at night.

See if you can guess the intro song!!

Edit: also remember I was drunk...and it's all choreographed in my head :ROFLMAO::illinois:

To add on. Point to each side and like have an animation that highlights the I-L-L to get the timing synced up

Conversely, we were at an Oktoberfest event yesterday with some friends here in Chicago. There were plenty of folks wearing Illini gear (myself included) and I was happy to see that we out numbered the other Big Ten fans there. We got several I-L-L, I-N-I chants going, but you could tell some folks were surprised by the prompt. You might have just surprised her
I will throw out an I-L-L if anyone is in Illini gear virtually anywhere, but especially out of state/country.

Best was when I was acknowledged appropriately at the Cabo airport and my ex wife telling me I was completely bonkers (maybe I was for marrying her).

Sidenote: If out of the country I’ll also throw a “Roll Tide” if people are wearing Alabama gear. I mean, isn’t that what sports/fandom is about. Those crazies will ALWAYS reply.

INI. Wearing my Illini gear in Louisville, Ky. Amongst Univ Louisville fans who want Satterfield head. KY fans losing their minds because they lost to South Carolina. ILLINI.
Before I retired i had some co-workers tell me they didn't care if the UK FB team EVER won a game...............Honestly said that ........

BB is king , at least here in the Paducah area and surprisingly it's about 50-50 as to UK and L-ville fandom..................Both sides are idiotic as to their level of wanton disrespect for the rules and have said to me all they care about is winning the NCAA championship.....if it later gets vacated they don't care ...

Seriously
.............................They really really are..........................

Edit: and the video beginning will make you laugh. It's the embodiment of the 80's.

The lady who “gets us ready for some I-L-L” at the beginning of the game has got to go. Awkward, robot/A.I. voice and cadence isn’t hyping anything up. I plug my ears. With this new era of hope and success Its time for our production team to start figuring some things out and creating some serious momentum from the crowd at kick off. Create a moment that becomes tradition that has every illini fan in their seat before the game. The orange smoke is an awesome addition.
