I believe the explanation is simply,,,izzo
Would it be too much to expect the officials to meet with the press after each game to answer questions regarding any controversial calls. If the losing coach has to meet with the media why not the officials. It might go a long way toward improving the opinion of the officials and some of the calls. All of the questions after games lead to lack of confidence in their job. This is the only question that I would like to see answered by the NCAA, Big10, or the refs. My first reaction was how did they allow that TO? Then when the announcers said there has been a technical foul called, my reaction was " Izzo is getting T'd up. We're getting 2 shots and the ball". Even a held/jump ball call would have given the Illini the ball. If anybody has seen this addressed, I'd like to see the explanation.

was pointed out immediately in thread (but no mention of it by announcers upon multiple showings of the shot)Do not believe this has been pointed out but if you watch a reply of the game at the very end it appears that Fears pushed Boswell with a forearm to the chest as he put up the shot up that went up over the backboard. Boswell most likely believed a foul would be called but it was not.
Becoming a pattern with MSU teams the last few yearsElbow to the face is Sissoko-like. Cheap shot artists.
To the refs credit (discredit?) that level on contact is rarely called a foul at that stage of the game.was pointed out immediately in thread (but no mention of it by announcers upon multiple showings of the shot)
In fairness, there were lots of calls rarely called a foul they were calling so why stop then?To the refs credit (discredit?) that level on contact is rarely called a foul at that stage of the game.
Welcome to the thunderdome, aka B1G officiatingHow can there be a technical foul at a crucial point in the game and the official does not explain the basis for the tech? Two days later and no one knows that happened?????
Can you name any sport where that happens? Favorite memory of Jud Heathcoat was the time he got mad, grabbed the ball from where it had landed and to make a point at the refs, slammed the ball down both hands into the floor.FIFY
I was there and right across court from him. Laughed my aXX off at it/him. Damn that must have hurt!Favorite memory of Jud Heathcoat was the time he got mad, grabbed the ball from where it had landed and to make a point at the refs, slammed the ball down both hands into the floor.
Forgetting it would then immediately rebound hard up into his own face. Injured his nose. Had to have it bandaged.
MSU basketball signature moment.

Two highlights I've tried to find and can't. Jud's and Efrem's monster dunk against Minnesota.I was there and right across court from him. Laughed my aXX off at it/him. Damn that must have hurt!

Can you imagine the emails this poor guy would get if that was public?Well where is the email address.

It has a short clip of the slam to the face.

While we don't know how long the bench was riding the official, or if Illinois' bench received prior warning, what we do know is that technical was lightning fast after a call that was outside the rulebook for multiple reasons (timeout cannot be called from the bench, ball must be possessed for a timeout to be called). The ref absolutely knew he made an abysmally wrong call in awarding that timeout, whether it was done purposefully or accidentally.I too would like to know the rationale for calling the T on the bench. From my memory, usually a bench T is something pretty egregious like interrupting play.
Here it was called during a TV timeout in the closing minutes of a hotly contested game after a controversial call. Why can’t the refs let our guys vent? Just like Brad has to recognize time/score and restrain himself as needed, refs need to do the same and not impact the game unless they absolutely had to. What’s particularly egregious about this case is the way Izzo rides the refs all game. And we get t’d up? With that time/score?
I’m as upset as anyone on the KJ calls. IMO Sparty knew they had no chance if we had KJ so they made a conscious decision to flail and try and bait fouls on KJ, which the refs were all too happy to indulge. Chicken sh*t way to play but part of the game and at least several of the fouls were borderline. The T in that situation removed all doubt that the refs were putting their thumbs on the scale for Sparty.
Sparty are much better than I thought but they won’t get that friendly whistle every night and I think they will drop some games. If we can get to 15-5 I still think we can earn a share. Would be a hell of a run but with KJ and now Will seeming to come out of his funk I think we can do it. Go Illini.
