This is the only question that I would like to see answered by the NCAA, Big10, or the refs. My first reaction was how did they allow that TO? Then when the announcers said there has been a technical foul called, my reaction was " Izzo is getting T'd up. We're getting 2 shots and the ball". Even a held/jump ball call would have given the Illini the ball. If anybody has seen this addressed, I'd like to see the explanation.
Would it be too much to expect the officials to meet with the press after each game to answer questions regarding any controversial calls. If the losing coach has to meet with the media why not the officials. It might go a long way toward improving the opinion of the officials and some of the calls. All of the questions after games lead to lack of confidence in their job.

I too would like to know the rationale for calling the T on the bench. From my memory, usually a bench T is something pretty egregious like interrupting play.

Here it was called during a TV timeout in the closing minutes of a hotly contested game after a controversial call. Why can’t the refs let our guys vent? Just like Brad has to recognize time/score and restrain himself as needed, refs need to do the same and not impact the game unless they absolutely had to. What’s particularly egregious about this case is the way Izzo rides the refs all game. And we get t’d up? With that time/score?

I’m as upset as anyone on the KJ calls. IMO Sparty knew they had no chance if we had KJ so they made a conscious decision to flail and try and bait fouls on KJ, which the refs were all too happy to indulge. Chicken sh*t way to play but part of the game and at least several of the fouls were borderline. The T in that situation removed all doubt that the refs were putting their thumbs on the scale for Sparty.

Sparty are much better than I thought but they won’t get that friendly whistle every night and I think they will drop some games. If we can get to 15-5 I still think we can earn a share. Would be a hell of a run but with KJ and now Will seeming to come out of his funk I think we can do it. Go Illini.

Do not believe this has been pointed out but if you watch a reply of the game at the very end it appears that Fears pushed Boswell with a forearm to the chest as he put up the shot up that went up over the backboard. Boswell most likely believed a foul would be called but it was not.
was pointed out immediately in thread (but no mention of it by announcers upon multiple showings of the shot)

Izzo jumps around and screams like a deranged leprechaun, even runs onto the court in the middle of fuc*ing plays. The leeway he gets based on some misguided notion that he's some elite coach has got to be some of the largest in the country

This game was stolen by the refs. Everyone knows it including Michigan State fans. Illinois is clearly the better team, coach izzo will even admit that. This game was ours until it was stolen.

Can you name any sport where that happens? That's your answer.

Favorite memory of Jud Heathcoat was the time he got mad, grabbed the ball from where it had landed and to make a point at the refs, slammed the ball down both hands into the floor.

Forgetting it would then immediately rebound hard up into his own face. Injured his nose. Had to have it bandaged.

MSU basketball signature moment.
I was there and right across court from him. Laughed my aXX off at it/him. Damn that must have hurt!

Here's a link to Lou giving Jud an Illini helmet.
It has a short clip of the slam to the face.

MSU should of just have told BU they weren't going to allow KJ to play in the game and don't bother flying him into Lansing. KJ is a projected top 5 NBA pick and I didn't see any NBA players on MSU side. He would have gradually tore them apart.

Let's face it... the over the backboard call if it happens 100 different times (in different scenarios), it will be let go 95/100 times. I know there might be something by the rule, but that's something that's never called. But this crew is one that was committed to screwing us over for the entire 40 minutes, so no surprise.

Tough luck because Will was right there for the rebound and putback... had perfect timing. Don't know if he would've gotten it, but had perfect timing.

While we don't know how long the bench was riding the official, or if Illinois' bench received prior warning, what we do know is that technical was lightning fast after a call that was outside the rulebook for multiple reasons (timeout cannot be called from the bench, ball must be possessed for a timeout to be called). The ref absolutely knew he made an abysmally wrong call in awarding that timeout, whether it was done purposefully or accidentally.

Now here's the thing, sometimes absolutely horrendous calls happen, but good refs will own up to it and say things like, "Brad, you're right, I missed that one. For a second, based on the pitch, I thought that Izzo was my ex-wife screaming at me to call the timeout. I know, it was a horse**** call." And while makeup calls suck also, often you will see an absurd level makeup call whether it be a travel or palming the ball, or offensive foul on the next possession sending it back the other way "correcting the error".

Bad refs though, have wittle bittle fragile egos with huge Napoleon complexes who can't tolerate any criticisms for making blatantly awful calls, and they decide to immediately T up anyone who challenges them, making an already terrible call even worse.

The fouls on KJ looked targeted and purposeful, but at least you can pretend maybe the refs just had some bad angles that made them think those were all fouls. But that awarded time out and technical was not just bad calls, it was undeniable how purposefully targeted that was in MSU's favor and all of the refs who called this game need to be sidelined for quite some time.
