Yep, Big Ten title hopes are gone. Honestly, they probably died with the Maryland game, because you can’t leave yourself zero margin for error.

With that said, we’ll have plenty of opportunities (three) for truly great wins to catapult us right back into top seed conversations. Will we show up? We have to figure something out as far as being mentally prepared. I’m honestly most worried about Nebraska at home. If we can survive that one (am I SERIOUSLY saying that for a top 10 team?!), I think we can snag one of the other three.

If we beat Nebraska and only also beat Wisconsin, we are likely in 3-seed territory. Snag one of the other two, as well, and we are still comfortably a 2. If we got the stink out of our game tonight and can win out, we’ll be a 1.

Needless to say ... practice our damn FTs, remember (AGAIN) what happens when you don’t come to play and then MOVE ON. I’ll be really disappointed if we don’t come out and take our frustration out on what should be a clearly inferior Nebraska squad.
I swear sometimes I think we're the worst top 10/5 team ever. No matter who we play I'm nervous because I know we could lose in an embarrassing fashion like tonight.

Sigh that sucked. Came in a bit too cocky thinking we could ride saturdays success but the play didn’t follow. Michigan state played really fast and physical and they had the depth to do so. Dared us to make our FT and we didn’t. Missed 15 and lost by 11. That’s probably the recipe to beat us- have more length, play more physical and take us out of rhythm. Well planned by Izzo for a down MSU year.

on to the next. Come out mad as hell again Nebraska and avenge the close game. Don’t get caught thinking about Wisconsin. If we win Senior night and at WIS, I think we are still in good shape for a 2 seed

Ayo, so so tonight. Seemed not into it. Kofi frustrated,. Trent brought it. Fouled out a big part of their team, but could not take advantange. Still missing soooo many free throws. They wanted it, we just were not there. Hope losing now brings victory the rest of the way (or at least when it counts). How many times has MSU lost a bunch and got to the final four and also won it all. Why not us?
Ayo’s 3pt shot seemed super off.

Lots of blame to go around, but I think part of it is that we aren't going to win a lot of games where Kofi both has early foul trouble and struggles to hit FTs. Basically neutralizes everything we're trying to do with him.
Izzo gambled with Hack-a-Kofi and it worked. Kithier and Marble fouled out with 8 to go and Bingham had 4 lol.

Officiating sucked a fat one but it is not the reason we lost.

Missed FTs, Ayo off game, Kofi foul trouble in the first half and trying to take on the entire Sparty lineup every time he touched it were bigger factors.

I hate to be that guy but it sure seems like the B1G wanted to make sure Michigan State had a good chance at getting in. Refs were HORRENDOUS.

I have a hard time getting my hopes up going forward.
I agree, just because I feel like the free throw bug is going to show up at the wrong time and you really can't coach it up. BU can sit there and have them all shoot 500 free throws a day, but if they tense up in a game...what can you do? That's going to be the defense on Kofi going forward. 3 of 11 from the foul line.

B1G games with Larry Scirotto part of the crew: 3-3
Without Scirotto: 9-1

Get him off our crews moving forward! Didn’t deserve to win this one but the officiating sure didn’t help.
Thank you. Does anyone have the video of him getting in John Groce’s face? Guy and his crew kill Illinois. He doesn’t know how to keep a game fro getting out of hand.

and he’s out there on a power trip seems like too.

we didn’t have it tonight. the first half possession where ayo missed two layups is this game in a nutshell. why isn’t damonte shooting anymore? passed up multiple open threes tonight

This was a game that the B1G specifically called in order to help MSU get into the tournament.
Truer words were never spoken. And when called that way early, it becomes easy to miss FTs. I counted seven fouls inflicted on Kofi on one possession.

Ayo was getting hacked all game. This is not on him.

We played poorly in the first half and I thought we played better in the second half but refs really killed our momentum in spots.

Don't deserve to win but I'm happy we came out of this game with no injuries.
Refs were bad...but that is how it goes. Not blaming Ayo, one of our greatest. Don't think any hacking was the issue.

2nd half. Ref blew, but if we have to blame them...well

We did not deserve to win. We were outplayed. Happy no one wass hurt as well. We can still win it all. But we lost becuase MSU was better tonight. Let's learn and move on and upward.

This is why I'm so afraid of what happens if we end up below the 2 line. If we get a 4-5 seed I can imagine us going in with big heads thinking we've already won and getting embarrassed.

Was the ball off the MSU player's knee and into the ref the worst call of the season so far? There have been some terrible calls but i cannot remember a worse one than this.
Not calling the flagrant on the guy who intentionally hit Kofi on the head was pretty bad. If it was reversed.......well, we have all seen what Kofi's arm landing on your noggin can do.

We lost. That’s fine. What wasn’t fine was how this was played. They took cheap shots at kofi and Ayo all night. Izzo smiling it up.
If Kofi doesn't shoot 3 of 11 from the line, that "plan" wouldn't be an option. Classic hack a Shaq. It's just smart.

MSU was stronger, more athletic, quicker to loose balls. Great game plan by them. Crowded Kofi, fouled him to not let him get any rhythm. Didn't give up anything in transition to Ayo.

This was another opponent of the ilk of Mizzou, Rutgers, Ohio State, Maryland where Illinois just gets outmuscled/outathleted. Our bad matchups are teams that are strong/athletic and play half court.

We were not out toughed..just didn't get any calls...there could have been a foul called on msu on every possession we had. That crew sucks..how is a flagrant 2 not originally called? With that said we make free throws and we still win..
We were clearly out toughed, especially in the first half. Did not take advantage of the foul advantage they gave us missing 16 free throws. We are not consistently mentally tough. They punched us in the mouth, we did not respond in time.
